HP LP2475w, IPS 24" Official Thread! (Now Available from OcUK)

Well I have some good news; I had the green-to-red tinting problem

Now, on close inspection after 100 hours, it's almost certainly gone. There are moments where I'll look at the screen (say, the grey bars at the sides of BBC news website), and find myself trying to recall which side was meant to be red, and which green. I'd say the left is very marginally lighter, but besides that, they're now almost identical in colour tone. This didn't happen with my previous monitors.

Now, if only I could get Full RGB mode to work with the PS3 without the blacks being crushed.

I'm trying out my fourth LP2475 and is has the same buzzing/whining problem as the other three.

What about your screens? Do they buzz too?

This one is my first replacement directly from HP. It's CIG068 and obviously the bezel LED bug has been fixed. The other 2475's I've had were very poorly calibrated, the image was very greenish, but this screen looks much better out of the box. :p

Also, while my first one didn't have any obvious green/red color shift, my second and third one had (both CIG045). This one appears to be as good as my first one on this particular area, no shifting from cold to warm.

I've heard people suggesting that all screens could have the green/red problem, that it all depends on who is looking at the screen. Some would notice it and others wouldn't. Well, having had four 2475's I can dismiss any such theories. The green/red tint is obvious on some of them, and not visible on others.

Have anyone of you tried this monitor with the new Windows 7 RC? I used the beta before and after a complete reinstall of the new release candidate I noticed the colours were WAY more accurate non-calibrated.

It's actually as if the new build of Windows 7 is taking into account that I'm using a wide gamut monitor, unlike the previous build. Pictures dont look over saturated anymore w/o calibration. Strange.. or maybe just an improvement of Window's colour management. :p

IRT Niemi - No buzzing here. It's not noticable anyway.

IRT Bobbo - I tried an earlier build and it didn't make a difference, so I'm glad to hear they have us covered with the retail version. Does this include Firefox? I'm installing it now.

I may even find myself missing the saturated colours...

I think the o/s itself is color managed hence it looking better. One of the new features of windows 7 or so i've heard.

no discernable buzzing here either.

IRT Bobbo - No difference, as far as I can remember my previous LP2475w's. My sRGB preset looks almost identical to the 6500K setting, and still uses the wide gamut. In other words; it's deceptively titled, and useless.

IRT nigel1210 - I ordered direct from the Hp Store and ended up with GIG052. If OCUK receive stock of this unit again, they'll likely have that or better.

Sorry, I meant I've already turned Cleartype off. This is how I resolved the text fringing issue:

The default Vista settings were "Windows Aero" color scheme + Cleartype Enabled. This definitely causes slightly blurrier text for me, and there's no monitor-level sharpness settings to compensate for it when running at the native resolution.

Disabling Cleartype alone doesn't entirely allay the issue. For absolutely perfect text in both Firefox and the explorer windows, you'll need to set the Windows color scheme to either "Standard" or "Vista Basic" as well. That's what I've been using for the last month, and you'll notice the difference immediately.

As for the green-to-pink tint: it's still evident on mine, but I can't say it bothers me. I've heard it's entirely pot luck whether you receive one with this "feature".

I'm using a mac so not sure how I would change it.

Ah I though that had been fixed in the units with later firmware, think I'll leave this screen well alone now seems to many problems. Even my old tn screen doesnt have a tint or any text problems.

Thanks for the info cataferal

Could anyone tell me please the product code for an HP LP2475w with firmware version 068 installed?
It should be the VPN number on the box.

Thank you.
