Freeman needs our help again!

I voted Freeman but now I want to vote Link. I've had so many good times in Links adventures. Ocarine of Time was epic.

The first Half Life was equally epic, but the sequal and the episodes werent quite on a par.

Show any gamer a picture of Link and he'll know who he is, same goes for Freeman.

Show a lay person a picture of Gordon Freeman and they'll ask you why you've shown them a picture of a geek in an orange suit. However, with Link, there is a fairly small but reasonable chance they will know who it is, even if it's just 'that guy from that game on Nintendo' but he's still recognised as far more of a character than Freeman is IMO.

Do you really believe that? its more likely if shown a picture of freeman that they would recognise him as a computer game character. With link they would probably just say he's an elf.

Don't be a fool, Link has been an icon since forever, Gordon Freeman won't be half as recognisable except to gamers.

Voted link - I don't want too, but he is an icon.

I didn't even play / like the games massively, but games like Zelda 64 really pushed gaming forward.

Voted Freeman but it doesn't matter.

Mario will win, which is a shame because he's possibly one of the weakest of all the characters who were involved.

Nor is he a great hero, saved a princess, big woop.

Be quiet. The only reason most people here are backing Freeman is because he is considered pc property. HL1,2 and episode 2 are on the consoles so saying console noobs who don't know Freeman is dumb.

The Zelda games are much better than the HL games. The Zelda games have made a much bigger impact on gaming itself than any of the HL games combined. But to be honest both characters are very dull and boring.

I think it's ironic that a MIT graduate with a Ph.D. in Theoretical physics, sports the most bad ass (and iconic) game suit of all time, the H.E.V. suit, beats aliens and police to death with a crow bar, and a warrior that can teleport by playing music on an ocarina, who can breath underwater because of his magic blue tunic and can change his age at will, will be beaten in a competition of awesomeness by a fat Italian plumber who can jump on mushrooms and that's it.

That's obviously a matter of opinion as I completely disagree. There's no question that the Ocarina of Time had a massive impact on the games industry and gaming, but more so than that Half Life series? Not a chance. You said that Zelda had more impact than all the Half Life games combined? Well, I put it to you that Half Life is pretty much the reason that online gaming is as popular as it is today. Games such as Counter Strike and Counter Strike: Source are in existence today thanks to Gordon Freeman's exploits. Left 4 Dead, the Half Life sequels, Half Life 1 and 2 Deathmatch, not to mention the mammoth amount of third party mods and addons... Gordon Freeman is the reason for SO SO much of the gaming that takes place today. Link simply cannot compete with that.

I never said it was, I was simply offering my opinion on the issue that Robert brought up. People are totally able to vote for whichever character they wish, for whatever reason they wish.

How does Freeman have anything to do with the success of online games today? Counter Strike is the only break through online game that came out of of half life and that wasn't even made by valve. I would say games like Quake and Unreal have done more for online gaming than half life.

Without Zelda, who knows if even Half Life would exist today. Gaming could have gone a totally different way if Zelda was never created.
