Freeman needs our help again!

Show any gamer a picture of Link and he'll know who he is, same goes for Freeman.

Show a lay person a picture of Gordon Freeman and they'll ask you why you've shown them a picture of a geek in an orange suit. However, with Link, there is a fairly small but reasonable chance they will know who it is, even if it's just 'that guy from that game on Nintendo' but he's still recognised as far more of a character than Freeman is IMO.

Oh the lols from that.

Put it this way. Freemans a guy with a crowbar running around a science facility wacking and shooting aliens, marines and possibly his own colleagues and don't get me wrong, Half Life is a class game, but Zelda is something else. Zelda was released on different consoles and Link actually has a timeline, a legacy and a more epic storyline than Half Life.

Either way, if Link does win, he won't beat Mario.

You don't even seen Gordon in the games. He is only on the box cover and in art work.

I am pretty sure Link is easier to recognize as a gaming character.

How does Freeman have anything to do with the success of online games today? Counter Strike is the only break through online game that came out of of half life and that wasn't even made by valve. I would say games like Quake and Unreal have done more for online gaming than half life.
Of course Freeman is to do with the success of games. Counter Strike was the first massively popular online game, which used the Half Life engine which was first used in Half Life (surprisingly) which starred... You guessed it, Gordon Freeman! Again, talking about the sequels, Half Life 2 invented the Source engine, which arguably revolutionised the world of gaming once more. Even though not a lot of other developers used said engine, opting for others such as the Unreal engine, it opened a lot of doors in the the world of real time physics and games such as Counter Strike: Source.

I just don't see how you can think that Zelda has had more of an effect on the games industry than the Half Life games. The Zelda games were and still are, fantastic games, but I honestly don't feel that they have had such a far reaching and genuinely epic effect that the Half Life games have had. I for one wouldn't have started gaming online when I did if it wasn't for Benjo persuading me to buy Half Life for some online deathmatch 'surreal'ness (;)).

The only difference is the fact they're developed for different consoles, you can't actually compare the two because they're used for different purposes.

Well, seeing as how Zelda started in the 80's and has influenced a lot of games even before HL was a thought, I'd say Zelda has done more for gaming than HL.

Maybe not in the past 10 years, but overall, the Zelda franchise > HL franchise.

So what have we got?

Freeman:
Influenced more games
Many more playtime hours (you can't discard HL mods, they were inspired by the great game and ultimately propelled the mod scene from backroom hobby to recognisable expansions)
Beats link as a character

Link:
More recognisable

Influenced more games (which is irrelevent when discussing characters, as its not the character that has caused this, it's the gameplay)

Link:
More recognisable
More playtime hours (you can discard HL mods because most of them are unrelated to Freeman, Valve just happened to make easy to use engines which made them popular with modders)
Beats Freeman as a character

Corrected ;)

Freeman has gained another 200 votes on Link, though he is still 1600 behind.
Can OCUK help the Freeman prise the final spot from Links feminine hands and yes; with the crowbar.
Come on guys.

If Gordon wins it'll because of the many threads on gaming forums everywhere - like this one - that are demanding votes for Freeman! They're in every forum I frequent.

This isn't Gordon Freeman vs. x - it's PC gamers uniting against the evil consoles

Hahaha, what?

I've been gaming for nigh-on 30 years and didn't have the faintest idea who Link was.
