Where do I stand?

Sorry I missed your post thanks for letting me know but what did it do? Did the interior electrical stuff fire up like the Mondeo as someone explained or was it totally dead?

Dealer could have phoned each other?

If the dealer is busy why has it not going back to the dealer you bought it off, or a Ford specialist?

The law pretty much states they can say 52 minute warranty, if something breaks 4 months later they need to either prove you did it through misuse or fix it.

I'm a noob sorry :o

I just spoke to them now so I know where I stand again with any potential promises for today and got them to agree a courtesy car if its not sorted by the end of the day

I rang them within minutes of each other

Because the dealer I bought it off is 12 miles away

The same happened to me when I bought my car. The dealer advised me at the time that the car had been sitting for a month or two and if I had any problems to bring it back.

Sure enough a week or so after I had it it wouldn't start (although IIRC interior lights etc. still worked) so they took it back and charged it up. They kept the car for a couple of days to check the battery over, giving me a courtesy car during the time.

They eventually figured out that the battery wouldn't hold its charge and replaced it completely FOC.

TBH I wouldn't have expected anything less.

Well that's good news :)
I guess they will now at least attempt to fix it rather than give you a courtesy car!

I'm sure the OP deliberately bought a car from this dealer because they had the crappiest customer service. Or just perhaps they had a car he wanted, they were main dealers and he bought it thinking he would be covered. This is a silly question, you don't get to find out how good customer service is until things go wrong.

Exactly, I was told it only had a month warranty, if it wasnt fit for forecourt it would have gone to auction, dealers dont want to lose money on bad cars, this is all blatently obvious

12 miles is nothing!

You may have rung them within a minute of each other but they've both known about the situation for a few days. When they agreed to take the car originally they may have phoned the other dealer and said if you start kicking off just say we're busy and will look at it asap.

He was told the car would have just one month of warranty. This is highly unusual for any car dealer, let alone a main dealer. Even the pikiest of dealers usually offers a 6 month warranty, if anything to cover themselves!

The fact they were only willing to warrant the car for a single month is unusual enough to make me nervous.

If you find what I've said in this thread leaves you amazement then perhaps its no suprise you've bought a car from a main dealer after being told they wouldnt give you any more than a months warranty!

Why buy from a dealer if you dont get the peace of mind of a decent warranty? In almost all areas bar the warranty, buying from a dealer is a pain. You pay more for the car, you have to deal with a slimey salesman, you don't get to meet the previous owner, you get the car 'prepared' with cheap wax and dashboard shine, they remove the tax, etc. The saving grace, and the reason people still buy from dealers, is the warranty. Your peace of mind.

Which you've not even got past month 1 without taking legal action.

While I can't disagree with the fundamentals of what you are saying, it's not always quite that simple though is it. If you find the particular car you like at a dealers ...or you need to part exchange your old car etc. There are many reasons why you might go to a dealer.
 
Its a main dealer just keep taking it back till you are happy.

I dont know about this 1 month warranty business though, you normally get that from a private dealer.

No such thing as a private dealer despite those who flog cars off the driveway trying to maintain there is. You are either a trader or a private seller - and the consumer protection offered to the customer in law (Which is why most dealers simply purchase a warranty and include it in the price, to protect themselves as much as protecting you) is the same whether you are Park Lane BMW or Bob and Daz's Driveway Motas.

I Totally agree with Fox.
Not only that he bought a Toyota from a Ford dealer. :confused:
Part of owning a Toyota is there after sales service as it's Gold.
It amazes me how people can spend thousands of pounds without seeeking better knowledge First.
 
It's pretty clear to me that they were just banging out a part ex to clear. Hence the 5 year old Toyota on the forecourt at a Ford main dealer. I'd put money on the previous owner driving around in a new or nearly new Ford right now..

Definately.
I bet if i looked around the Toyota it would have the same tyres/battery etc that it had when it was built.
Old owner will be a buy new sell at 5 year Dude who doesn't touch his motor apart from the service to keep the warranty running.
Ford would have got a Joey to clean it then just slung it on the forecourt.

What worrys me for the OP is that they take 3 days to sort an issue out when it's within warranty (shocking only a month for 5.5k)
What chance has he got after the Warranty runs out, Zero.

If he had bought off Toyota he would have a decent car & peace of mind for the future.

If i was the OP I'd speak to some Clever Legal Dude & try to back the car as not fit for purpose or some other Legal scam. Either way I wouldn't want it back.
