So if McLaren decides to use a team order to secure the WDC this year... we all know the precedent
But surely all Mclaren fans that have cried so hard about this ruling will pour disgust on Mclaren as two wrongs don't make a right?
No I didn't think so.
Mclaren have already been using them this year anyway, just not as blatantly. As I've said before the threads where Mclaren used team orders there was no crying and they are/were conning the fans of good races just as much.
I much prefer the old williams way of doing things, two drivers could race and overtake each other and go hammer and tongs until the end. Not the mclaren way of whoever leads into the first corner wins or save fuel.
No one cares about the constructors, they should get rid of it and every driver for themselves.

The decision today? It's crap. It's all a bunch of crap. F1's powers-that-be have had almost zero credibility for a long time now. You're only just noticing this? After all, this is the same sport where Renault could get away scot free with ordering one of their drivers to crash into a wall in order to bring a safety car out at just the right time to help their other driver....why is it such a leap to imagine the FIA not punishing Ferrari further for swapping their drivers over for the win of a race that won't even matter diddly-******* squat anyway 'cause they aren't going to win the championship?
Whatever. They could have fined Ferrari eleventy-squillion dollars and DQ'd them from the next four championships and it wouldn't have mattered one bloody bit. The next time around you'd have still been expecting the FIA to be excessively lenient.

Then again almost every sport is like this, take english footballs problem of paying taxes, on the one hand big teams are allowed to spend mile out of their means as they "generate income for their local communities" whilst on the other teams like portsmouth can get away with basically cheating the tax system and not telling anyone about their debt. If they were anything other than a sports team they would have been forced out of business, and this applies to all the F1 teams too! We've seen McLaren, Ferrari and Renault all in the 3 years been caught red handed for breaking explicit rules to the sport, and yet not only do they carry on, they are effectively encouraged to further bend the rules and call it ingenuity...
Life, money and everything else is a con on this basis! Still makes F1 fun to watch, though even less real (and more like a video game crossed with a soap-opera)

Not entirely pointless! $100,000 dollars is small enough for teams to consider pushing their luck, especially if the reward is great.
So, there is potential for another $100,000 to end up in the bonus jar at the FIA
They just said on the news that they are likely to scrap the team orders rule, which frankly stinks.

It is a tiny amount for an F1 team, so just hope they remove the rule now.

Like others have said, 100K is peanuts compared to the prize money for winning the championship. Hell, 50 million from McLaren didn't seem to affect them in any way.
Whether right or wrong FIA had a chance to put a stop to bending the rules like this - and they completely capitulated (not specifically this rule in particular)
Its common sense that watching the race back (as if it wasnt obvious enough live) Ferrari broke the rules they were racing under on the day - even without Massa's engineer basically admitting it live on tv just after the race
McLaren and Williams have in the past done similar things Im sure - but at the end of the day the NEW head of the FIA was meant to be changing things for the better.........but decided to do jack ****
(Todt may not have been on the panel officially, but someone would have to be VERY stupid indeed to believe he hasnt had a word beforehand in certain ears)
edit - personally if one championship has to go its the Drivers (teams wouldnt exist at the level they are if there was only the Drivers championship, plus the team orders rule becomes redundant straight away as you are only driving for the team in the first place)

FIA = Ferrari International Assistance, I really can't believe that they were not fined more. If the y want the rule removing that should be done after but for a breach the penalties should be significant not pocket change. Although I would be intereste to see where that 100k goes...

Great for Alonso/Ferrari fans.
This is also good news for other teams who wish to operate a No1/No2 system. RBR come to mind. They seem to love Vettel, so at least now they can be less discreet about the team orders. Should it ever be found out that they favoured Vettel over Webber, they can simply transfer £65k to the FIA and the jobs a good 'un.

What are you on about? The court of law doesn't give a damn about the FIA or what they did or didn't investigate. All Ferrari would have to do is prove that they were punished for doing something that other teams do. If you get fired for wearing white shoes then all you have to do is prove that other employees wear white shoes and you have a case for unfair dismissal.
The rule is a joke. The FIA appointed race steward for Hungary said that all Ferrari should have done was hide it better and everything would have been fine! Everyone knows that team orders happen- deal with it.
