This has got my blood boiling I must admit.

I have been a loyal Natwest customer for many many years, and now some Spanish POS bank has perhaps "bought me" as a customer?

Yes dailyFail again I know, but I am genuinely ****ed off about this.

At least NatWest and RBS were properly British with some decent history.

I dont want anything to do with these greedy Spanish pests.

Is anyone else rather hacked off? Natwest have been brilliant with me ever since I have been with them. Not a single bit of trouble.

Why does it feel like British industry is being taken away from us against our will?

Just look at the Cadbury's/Kraft saga, and the fact that the French own a huge portion of our Electricity provision sector.

Im getting bloody fed up. Santander..... FFFFFFUUUUUU!!

Natwest in Scotland and RBS in England are being sold.

I'm with Natwest in Scotland unfortunately, so I'll be leaving if/when the sale to Santander goes through. A bank is a business like any other so your details will be part of the sale as you're a customer.

Alliance and Leicester have gone the same way with regards to santander. But i have to say, the service has improved since the take over. But I dont know how alliance and leicester compare to natwest.

Britain was sold down the river a long time ago.

It's only because RBS are re-positioning themselves and have been instructed to sell off sections of thier business.

Deal with it, or move bank.

Before you carry on to huff and puff you might want to do this:

How can I stay with NatWest or RBS?

Call 0800 210 0214 and ask to fill in the relevant forms. Part of the agreement is that RBS is not allowed to market to those customers who have been sold, so you'll need to make the first move.

What should I do now?

If you are happy to move to Santander, you don't have to do anything. But if you want to stay with RBS or Natwest, call them on the above number.

I don't know, are you a major shareholder of a British company that has been overtaken by a foreign company without you voting for it?

Where does this "taken away from us" comes from? If you're not the owner of something then they are not taking anything away from "you". no one is going to ask "you" about it anyway since "you" don't own it.

What exactly makes an industry British? If I setup a company in UK and I have Swedish managers running it and have foreign shareholders as partners what does that make it?

Santander are absolutely awful. They took over Bradford And Bingley, we had so much trouble accessing our accounts or information on changes in the T&Cs that we closed all our accounts and ISA's and moved everything to our Current account bankers HSBC, who are excellent.

That wasn't my point.
I am commenting on the point that OP made about them being "spanish" ect ect.

There is no racism?, I think you may need to re-educate yourself on this one!

Santander are reknowned for having utterly WOEFUL customer service, not to mention the fact that the financial packages are not really competitive.

It begins to look like double standards when RBS was told by the Eurocrats that it had to flog its assets, yet Santander is allowed to take over as many British banks as it likes?

Finally, I want to bank with a BRITISH bank, not a Spanish, German, French, Nigerian or whatever. Whats wrong with that?

Who cares?

Why dont you look at it from the otherside - Instead of foreigner buying British.....Maybe the British sold out....?

Works both ways!

Finally, I want to bank with a BRITISH bank, not a Spanish, German, French, Nigerian or whatever. Whats wrong with that?

Then go move to Barclays!

I dont really care who i bank with as long as the service is good!!

I also drive a German car...................majority of hardware in my house is from the Far East................Majority of my CLothes are made in the Far East or Italy........................

What concerns me is that the Goverment must have KNOWN of this European competition law before bailing them out?

If not then I am disgusted at their incompetance, and if they DID know, then I am disgusted they carried on in the knowledge that we would eventually have to sell these assets to someone else.

Nothing.

The problem arises when you realise that there is not really any such thing as a British or Spanish or French bank exactly. Almost all banks are multinational in nature and have a global identity.

HSBC for example is seen as being British, but really it is an international finance company whose HQ is in Britain.
