*** Apple Media Event - 20th Oct 2010 - Official Thread ***

Well as my contract has a week to run and there's no indication of a renewal it looks like I'll be just maintaining my MBP for the medium term :) It may get a battery..

Do you autoqualify for 3 year warranty via HE? Do you have to register for it or something?

If you purchased it online I believe it can take a few months (no idea why) to update your warranty information on the website, but yes you do auto qualify. If you purchased it in store it might be different.

Was thinking of doing this too, when you did finance does it give instant decision?

It does but you then have to print off a PDF agreement and send it along with a recent bill to the finance company - once they have everything that authorise Apple to despatch.

It works out at £32 / month for 3 years.

But I would have probably long sold it before 3 years was up :D

Although I did not get it on finance my wife's MacBook is three years old (this month) and still going strong including battery life.

Most people keep Apple kit longer than similar PC kit and that's why the TCO/ROI for Apple kit isn't that bad. If you ignore all the screams of Apple are overpriced that is...

I had a 2K Vaio last to just outside its warranty. :(

Anyway I wonder if the wife would be too cross if I got a 4k 12 core Mac Pro on finance... :D

Give it a try! Whats the worse that could happen :D

pahah, be she would go mad. This is the main thing attracting me to apple, the prices are higher then PC counterparts but in the price you not only get the amazing build quality and good OS, but you get 3 years warrenty.

My last laptop died literally just after the warrenty and it wasnt economically viable to fix it. That was 500 pounds down the drain!

Personally, I was thinking they would announce some Macbook updates since it's getting to that time...

Do you think we can still expect any updates this year to the Macbook Pro series?

Appologies for the delay in the Summary :)

New Software: New version of iLife has now been released! It will be available on all new macs or be available for an upgrade price of 49$ for previous owners of the series.

New Operating System: "Mac OS X Lion" borrows features from the iPhone, for example the ability to swipe across screens. It will be available next Summer, and the price is currently unknown. Apple is also adding "Facetime" to the Mac OS. It is currently available as a Beta on the Apple site.

New Macbook Air: Apple has unveiled two new "Air" models; one has a 13.3" screen and weighs 2.9 lbs, the other has a 11.6" screen and weighs 2.3 lbs. Both utilise flash memory and have longer battery life due to low-voltage processors. They are both "instant on" like the iPhone/iPad. They are both available now and priced around 999$ - 1,500$ (£849 - £1349) (Dependant on setup).
