The 2011 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

Cheers guys, ordered 2 packs for £126 .

Regarding the yellowing, it says in the description that it has UV protection on one side to stop it yellowing, so hopefully it shouldn't yellow.

Only other thing I can see happening is it going green inside the channels, due to water ingress. Don't think there is anyway I could stop this though. When I used to build conservatories, the polycarb sheets for the roof would come with a silver tape on the top and a breather tape on the bottom, but cant see this being possible on 4mm poly. Might just put a bead of clear silicone on the edges to seal them.

heres my scotch bonnet from last year, growing very nicely

Uh oh... More chilli seeds germinating! Got about 6 demon red just sprouted! All my plants are looking better at the moment, good new growth and some new chillis starting to grow.

Heres a pic of mine as of tonight..

I've got 4 Jalapenos, 6 Cherry Bombs, 5 Tabasco and 5 Ring of Fire. Pretty much all are onto their second set of leaves now.

I put 6 seeds of each in to germinate and I wasn't planning on most of them growing! Will probably give a few plants away when they're a bit bigger. Have got a load of Pepper plants in the propagator next to the chillies too!

They've got a nice spot in the window in my game room. It generally stays quite warm in here as I've got my PC and other gear here. It also gets the sunlight through the window all afternoon. Have borrowed a couple heat mats from my pets too to keep the window warmer at night.

All my Naga's are coming up nicely. They have growth spurts every now and again, usually overnight when it's dark after I've stayed at the lasses and they've had 36hrs+ of light whilst I wasn't there. I have one or two runts but they don't look unhappy just not too keen on growing :)

Love how organised they are Street :D. I always forget to buy labels, so never know what plant it is till it starts growing chillies.

Mine at the moment. Can only see the tomato plants as they're getting taller than the scotch bonnets.

The 2 plants at the front are pointed sweet red peppers, grown from some seeds saved from some tesco peppers. They are growing really fast and have started to grow little flower buds .

switched the bulb for a 105watt bulb but it looks to be the same light output as the 45 watt . It is slightly longer though, so should help light the back plants a bit more.

Haha.. I do like things to be organised! My missus thinks I have OCD because shes messy and I always go around after her moving her crap out of the way!

What sort of time should you start fertilizing chillies?

The compost usually has enough food for a good few weeks and you'll probably be re-potting them into bigger pots long before the soil is depleted of nutrients.

Once they are in their final pots, i'd probably wait till a few chillies have appeared before feeding. Sometimes feeding too early can force the plant to grow more foliage and the flowers will drop off.

Then I think its recommended to use Tomorite (or similar tomato feed), diluted to half the recommended ratio for tomatoes, once every 2 weeks. There are also feeds that are specifically for Chillies but they're more expensive. I just use Tomorite and had great results with it last year.

Acid, what's the watering schedule you have? As for me i water a little bit just enough to moist the soil by doing little drizzles so it soaks through and when it comes out the bottom you know you have done too much and to stop. Most of the time it doesn't come out the bottom as you get a feel for how many drizzles to.
.

It was every day, otherwise they would droop as it's hot and those little pot things hold so little soil.

Been away all week so they haven't been watered since Monday (was a bit scared they would be totally dead by now) and they are now doing so much better, perhaps it was water and nutrients.

Ahhh so they don't mind a little bit of a drought.

I've potted all of mine up to larger pots now. Bonnets are still lagging behind, but slowly getting there!

Along with the other plants, the upstairs front room is becoming a jungle.

Left to right:

4 Courgettes
9 Coleus
4 Scotch Bonnets
3 Cayenne
6 Aubergines
6 Tomatoes

Going to have to start thinking about hardening some of them off and moving them into the greenhouse.

Overwintered Bonnet from last year (interest sparked by this thread) is doing really well so far, however i feel i should re pot it in some nice new compost? give it a boost of nutrition?

Should i just get in some liquid feed for it perhaps.

Edit:

It was a £1.30 plant from wilkinsons, started late but gave about 80 chillis last year.

i polinated about 20 open flowers on that today, so shouldnt be long before i get some scotch bonnet chillis :D:D
it seems to be doing well but theres something wierd on the underside of some of the leaves(tops of leaves look perfect!)
