MSI Afterburner Beta 10-FPS limiter in

@BaDBoY_uK

I have just been reading on other forums that AMD Catalyst™ 12.1a preview driver and 11.12 CAP2 has made things much smoother in BF3 with CF, so i would say that the fps limiter is not wholly responsible but is clearly the best combo.

Yeah, I think you are right mate - it is definitely a combo of both. But I would say the MSI AB limiter made the graphs smoother definitely. Without it, the graphs were choppy albeit less so than without 12.1a preview. I think forcing a constant framerate puts less strain on the GPUs and means the FPS doesn't fluctuate between say 55 and 90. The game itself feels a lot smoother and that is what I am after really :)

BATTLEFIELD 3 - HOW TO

Download the LATEST msi afterburner Beta 10
http://downloads.guru3d.com/MSI-Afterburner-2.2.0-Beta-10-download-2839.html

Open the tiny Plane icon, Go to Settings - Monitoring, Pick an option in graph to monitor ( frame rate is a good test ), and show in on screen display. The on screen display icon should load up, click on the on screen display icon ( looks like a plane with a purple 60 on it ) and click the PLUS sign. Select the BF3.exe to make a new profile. Then select below

Select 55FPS for framerate limit and OK to save

Copy this file into your battlefield 3 directory, BACK UP YOUR OLD USER.CFG FIRST to another directory!!.

Load BF3 turn off VSYNC and enjoy the frame rate limiter with vsync off ;)

Okay I have it working without the OSD.
in AfterBurner Settings > Monitoring >
Show in On Screen Display - checked
Show in Logitech LCD Display - checked

Then after setting the Frame Cap for the application;
MSI On Screen Display server > Show On screen Display - Off

This displays the info on the LCD not on-screen, and the frame cap still works.

I set this up with my 75hz LCD to cap at 75frames and it didn't really make much difference, just gave me more screen tear.

I then downloaded rivatuner and tried D3DOverider to enable triple buffering, oh man now that is smooth like butter.

Does using triple buffering through D3DOverider make the game look worse?

using ccc 11.11c preview drivers with D3DOverider triple buffer enabled and frame limiter set to 60... I get screen tearing :( what am I doing wrong?

I assume on a 120Hz monitor setting the fps limit to 120 will have the same effect as mentioned in this thread? Unfortunately I dont reach 120 fps on BF3 with single GTX570 tho :(

Just to let you know, I am not using the frame limiter. I am using Overrider only and it locks it to my screens refresh rate with little to no input lag. Try using d3doverrider only.

no stutter set to 60 fps smooth as butter :cool:

... I thought you said this frame rate limiter was a waste of time?

so basically it is just vsync on :confused: which in fps = fail

ive read the article but if neil sets his fps to 60 in bf3 i guarentee it will dip below ;)

this does not stop tearing on its own either.

it is better to just not add fancy things and play normal at the correct settings to get your "highest fps " all the time.

also this isnt going to happen !

i understand what was said about the limiter and like said its not a new idea its been around or trying to be done since 2009 ! its not been needed its just a option

capping your fps in fps games is a bad thing.

Dg sometimes lol ;)
