Kerbal Space Program

Need to try and make a more efficient design now... Time to fail and get side-tracked in making ridiculous flying objects.

Thanks :)

Just did the first tutorial with one rocket and one little guy and a parachute.
Was really worried that my parachute wasn't going to cut it as it was falling really fast with it deployed, but it opened fully in time and was a safe landing for the little guy inside.

Thought it was hilarious that he could then get out and wander about in his suit!! :D

Looks like tonight I try to get into space!

I'm taking the Russian school of thought on this one, getting into space is the priority, getting my dudes back alive is secondary.
If they die I'll build them a statue or something :p

Lmao... The Russian approach.. :D
PS: Have you bothered too look at your Kerbals underware after your maiden voyage, I assure you... He wasn't so impressed with your High-G return... :o

Just landed my dude in the sea, he's gone all Tom Hanks!!

WIIIILLLLSON!!!!

I've got to be honest, I'm bit disappointed with some of the ship designs you guys are making. They all look far too subtle and nowhere near outrageous enough!

Works a lot better than I was expecting. Rather than being a hideously slow monster that brings my pc to its knees and can't fly straight - it pulls like a train :D
It's pulling 4g by 30km and then from 40km up to 100km it is staying solid at 5g+
2 minutes 14 seconds to get to 100k.

Landed on the Moon with the main space stage (although it tipped over) in 11 ingame hours. lol

Pilot: ORNARD KERMIN
Craft: NOVA
G-Force: 7+
Famous Last Words: WTF, WTF, OMG I am Going to Die...
Facal Expression: PRICELESS :D

Build Them Small, Build them Fast, Build them usable...

OK, so getting into space wasn't that tricky....

Thing is now, I have literally zero idea on how to get it orbitting, or get it heading back or what?!
At the moment he's just hurtling ever further into space!! :(

Can anyone advise what RCS does? And how to make good use of it?

Helps rotate ship in space,
Not a lot of use, unless spaceship is sluggish at amnouvering.
And fun playing with it, like scot manley does on YouTube. But tbh I find it very useless ATM. Until we get docking, then it will become extremely important.

:D

Btw does anyone know when we will be able to select crew members? (Or whatever the crew tab will be used for anyway)

You mean, when you right click on the command pod?
When you have more than one, astronaught in the pod, (Right Click) allows you too select a crew member for EVA.

It does explain in the tutorial, but its no easy reading for a first timer.
See the NAV Ball, Middle an Bottom of screen.
- That Orange V, with the Dot: Thats your Vector (Direction)
- Green Circle with 3 Lines: Optimal Vector
- Purple Dot + 3 Purple Lines: Vector to HIDDEN Kerbal Space Centre (KSC)
- (Out Of Sight) 3 Green Lines: Optimal Retro-Grade (Retro-Grade is Deaccelerate)

As for achieving orbit:
Press M - This brings up map view, an will show you your ship an intended flight path when moving (Not 100% Accurate)
When flying straight up @ 40-50KM, Bring Crafts Vector to point at the horizon. Throttle back, so the craft is VERY Slowly accerating.
An wait for your craft to meet the Ap Point, then throttle up.
BOTH Ap/Ep MUST be above 70KM to achieve Stable Orbit, or your craft will Lytho-Brake (Atmospheric Drag Slows Craft Eventually) to slowly de-orbit. :(

Any other questions, please ask..

Sod throttling back, that means your in atmosphere even longer and as such burn far more fuel, start banking over earlier and keep throttle on full power.

Although in 0.16 because of the fuel bug, it will save fuel throttling back.

RCS = Reaction control System (Or Hot Steam, in real life)
As pointed out, its designed of very small, finite adjustments in space on ALL Axis.
Where it is useful, is when Landing (Mun/Minimus), Docking, an helping control large craft.
Most small craft do just fine, without it!

To Control RCS:
Activate = R
Controls = H N I K J L (ALSO Q E W A S D)
