Kerbal Space Program

Well the only other flight sim before this was Orbiter, which was far more realistic, but it really was a "sim", more than a game.

So it got boring for me.

Orbiter:
Been in development for over 10 years, I believe its even used to train real astronaughts, its that realistic. Great game if you have the time an enjoy 100% authentic simulations.

Kerbal Space Program:
Been in development just over a year. Growing Dev team of roughly 15 members.
Game priorities fun over pure simulation, so 95% authentic in its simulation (1 Body Phyics, not Multibody.)
Higly moddable, an so much too add in the future. :)

Now back to making movable, orbiting bombs. :)

Rescuing Bob is going to be quite the mission. Might use it as an excuse to try out the new orbital mechanics i've learned, since a straight shot rendevouz is pretty much out of the question with my piloting skills :p

With the next update. Version. 17.
When the next update is released is any ones guess.
1-2 Months estimate.

Nice!

That gives me time to finally get into this properly, find my way around on how to build, fly, orbit, land my ships etc.

Saw an awesome vid earlier explaining orbits! Just ship building I am horrible at :p

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
However; I strongly stipulate learning throught trial an error.
Significantly more fun..
After 12+ Months, I am STILL learning through this method, an giggling like a child in the process.

Try youtube, an find video's from version .6 (Before Struts - Version .7)
Some of the rockets where laughable, an there doomed missions. :D

PS: KSP love's fast CPU's so overclock you i5, for best FPS with massive ships.

I will be sure to!

And I hope to play via trial and error but I just need a pointer in ship design, seeing as I have completely failed to understand how to make anything that will even take off in the past few weeks :D

Go back to basics:
Command Pod.
ASAS.
1x Fuel Tank.
Engine.
= Now launch at 100% throttle, an learn.

Progressively add another fuel tank.
This will teach you the optimal power to weight ratio for certain tanks + engine configurations.
PS: Engines work best when bolstered to several tanks to burn long.
3 Tanks best for Lifter Stage. 4 Tanks best once out of the pea-soup atmo. ;)

An build them light...
Struts, struts an more struts, to glue your ship together well (Conservatively).
No Lander Legs (Winglets are great as Lander Legs an weight a tenth..),
Limited RCS (Saves Weight)
No silly ladders (Real Kerbals RCS to the hatch, or face palm on there exit). :p

Attempt number one didn't go to plan, as I forgot to order my stages :p

FA94E7716317424A9385E2453320CFD589BB532F

However once that was sorted I had lift off! (Bare in mind this is only one of my learning what to do experiments, im not trying to orbit or yet or anything :p)

DED0FD54BBC29D187A8E20167EA31ABEAE21F2EC
But finally ran out of steam, didn't really get anywhere near an orbit :p Sorry Patlorf!

Good first attempt..
An it always makes for great reading when members posts pictures. :)

Those two engines have different thrust rates..
The Larger one, is best for Lifter stage. (No Gimbling, Higher Thrust, Thurster)
Small one used in pictures is great for inorbit or some Mun Landing designs.
(Gimbles, Good Thrust, Fuel efficent.)

Keep trying.

Oh right, I need to remember to read what each description says :p

At the moment I just shove one on :D
