*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Well, that was a completely painless process. I must have done something wrong :D
For some reason, I expected the factory reset to take me back to ICS. Did not realise it would reboot as JB

Wifi now appears to be working, at work at least :)

Only thing I forgot was to back up my text messages, but no big deal. I backed up all the folders on the phone. I presume they are not simply stored in a folder?

Any ideas what may have gone wrong with the initial update? Incompatible app maybe? I don`t have many.

Yup, once the update is done, that is it, no way of going back unless you manually flash the old build :)

Good to hear it is fixed now.

Not too sure about the SMS and folder thing but I don't think they are stored that way.....

No idea what could have happened, probably something like what you mentioned, although not due to an app (unless you were using something related to wifi that runs in the background)

Surprisingly my rock case arrived this morning

Only had it on for a bit but so far I am very impressed with it, more pics and info. later :)

That looks a nice Case. :)

It could be useful. One thing I have noticed with the sense update, is the quick controls on the browser seem closer to the edge of the screen if that makes sense. I have a gel case on and its really awkward to get the quick controls to appear.

Off topic, I really wish I could have the quick controls on my Nexus 7.

Yeah it is very nice, that photo doesn't do it justice either :p

Hmm, they seem the same to me as to how they were on ICS. But yeah they are still too close to the edge, hopefully HTC will allow us to change the quick trigger area in the next update.

I just connected my phone to my PC via USB and I can access all my files just fine Countcussy, can see the DCIM folder with all my photos and videos.

Although HTC sync manager came up wanting to be installed, I didn't as I don't really need it (I just let windows install the drivers):

http://www.htc.com/www/software/htc-sync-manager/

And the USB storage mode activates as soon as you connect the phone now, you don't have an option to just connect and have it charge only etc.

Thanks Nexus.
It was definately an XP issue. It intermittantly kept bringing up a virtual cd rom drive, but then asking me to insert disk. Once i mangaged to access that drive, I was able to install drivers/software.
After installing the drivers, i can now see everything.
It appears Windows 7 does it natively. Would not be a problem at home, but we are still on XP at work.

I like the new connection status.:) The selection screen will not be missed. The other thing I really like is the USB options. Our Wifi at work is miles away from my desk. Being able to use my PC`s internet connection, reverse tether if you will, is very useful. We have no 3G at work. Middle of nowhere :D

Of course, this may have been available on ICS, but its certainly very user friendly on JB.

Xp............:o

Time for your workplace to upgrade :p

Yeah I think that was available on ICS too :p :D They should have kept the "charge only" option, although saying that I very rarely connect my phone to the PC now as if I want to charge, I use the mains as it is much quicker for charging and as said, transfers are all done wirelessy. The layout is better though :)

Also, no 3G at your workplace either!?!? :o

:p

Plugging the phone in doesn't work quite the same as before. Can no longer open photos straight from the device into photoshop. They have to be copied onto the computer first. Bit of a pain.

LOL. We are thankful for what we have. We can reach internet speeds of 1.5 mb at quiet times !!!

The XP is simply a software thing. Only a small company. Some software we use everyday is obsolete and does not work with Windows 7. We will upgrade some day :p

As for the mobile, at least now I am with Orange/EE I can make a call. I leave the A1 in a morning and by the time I have covered 4 miles of country roads to my place of work, its like I have driven through a time portal. :D

Really?
I cannot re-create this behaviour. Browsing to the DCIM folder and double clicking on a picture opens my photo software without problems.

Oh dear........... :o

IIRC you can run programs under XP mode in windows 7 (think you need the ultimate version), right click on the .exe and go to compatibility and you can choose XP there, even vista iirc. And you also have XP virtual mode, which should work.

its like I have driven through a time portal. :D

:D

Regarding the thing skillmister mentioned, I think he means opening the photos straight into adobe photoshop, not windows picture viewer.

Windows picture viewer and transferring files works fine for me, didn't try opening a photo on my phone with photoshop.

Yeah my icon looks like that too skillmister.

I have gotten bored of using most of the stock sense apps etc. so have transformed most of the phone into stock android (or close enough anyway!) without rooting, honestly if it weren't for things like the notification bar/tray and settings menu you wouldn't think that sense was on this phone :p I am now using these as my apps (been using some of the following for a while):

Clock/alarm app - Clock JB+
Gallery - quickpic (still use stock sense gallery for effects and some other features like taking a photo whilst playing back a recorded video) Would like to use gallery ics due to the UI and effects, however, not being able to rename videos etc. is an instant no no! :p Also have found it to be laggy since the JB update
Calculator - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hbmRyb2lkMi5jYWxjdWxhdG9yMyJd
Calendar - google calendar
SMS - go sms with a lovely holo theme
Dialer - exdialer with a lovely Black holo theme
Music - play music (all my music is online, so no other options)
keyboard - I like the stock 4.2 KB, but cursor keys are a must! So swiftkey 3 it is
launcher - Nova prime with stock JB icon pack etc.

Any sense apps that can't be disabled are hidden

Still using the stock sense and camera apps though as there is nothing that comes close to them on the market.

Now all that needs replaced is the lock screen, hurry up Kevin with fixing that bug when using a pin/pattern lock and hurry up team syndicate with ironing out the bugs in omega status bar! :p

Right, got some photos taken tonight, not great unfortunately though (really need to invest in a decent camera!) so will take more tomorrow in better light as the lumia 800 performs better then.

Pros:

- Very light, doesn't add much weight to the phone
- very thin, a bit thinner than the diztronic case and it doesn't make the phone feel much bigger
- phone is more comfortable to hold
- good grip, however, not as grippy as what a lot of people make it out to be imho, was expecting it to be really grippy
- cut outs are accurate, not perfectly aligned like the case mate tough and diztronic case though, really not an issue though
- my gripe with the diztronic etc. was the way that the case took away the minimal sleek design of the front and this is much better, but still is somewhat ruined as expected
- sweat marks, fingerprints etc. aren't a problem
- the case looks very nice under any lighting conditions
- camera lens is slightly below the surface of the case, literally a fraction of a mm though

Cons:

- whilst feeling very nice, it still pales in comparison to the MAO aluminium uni-body
- difficult to remove the case, feel like I am going to break the case when trying to take it of
- can't see it protecting the phone from medium-high drops on concrete

The case feels a bit more flimsy than what I would have liked and of course you also loose "perceived" quality. It is kind of hard to describe the "feel", it is a bit like worn out sandpaper but nicer if that makes any sense :p

Personally I think the nillkin super shield case would have been even nicer, unfortunately the only place it was being sold from was located in Hong Kong through Ebay so didn't fancy waiting months for it to be delivered and having to deal with returns or whatever.

HTC have just done too good of a job with the design and materials for the one S so it really is impossible to find any case, which will be as good for the design, perceived quality and "feel", they really have spoiled me for those areas.

I am very pleased with the case on the whole but the real test will be if I can keep it on for more than a few weeks :p

Some pics now:

As said, I will post more photos in better lighting, including photos of the top and bottom as well as the cutouts.
