*** The official HTC One S thread ***

- due to the power saver notification in the notification tray, it means that is the first "notification" thus anything else that comes after it i.e. message, missed call etc. won't be expanded by default (as iirc only the first notification is expanded by default for all android devices)

i just tried it on notification weather pro which is the 2nd in the list behind that power saving thing and it expanded it

New pin number unlock screen is super annoying.
Translucent notification bar on lock screen annoys me far more than it should :p
Had to change browsers.

I like the new camera layout.
Does seem slightly snappier through menus etc.
Plugging into PC as disk mode by default is awesome.

Can't comment on battery as you know mine is pretty random because of poor wifi signal.

May be some other stuff i'm yet to notice.

I thought you could always choose to plug into PC as disk/storage mode by default (or any of the other stuff available like charge, USB tether etc.)?

Yeah the new camera UI is great!

Without having to pinch to zoom? It automatically just expands? Is there an option to force that in notification weather pro?

pinch in again and it returns to 1 line.

Ah! That is "pinned" to the notification tray, so yeah it will stay like that for good until you remove and re-add it.

You can see what I mean by removing all that "pinned" stuff and then call your mobile (hang up so you have a missed call or send an email to yourself and hold down on the power notification and clicking "app info" and hitting "force close/stop" with the missed call or something else below it, once that "power saver" is gone, the next notification in line should automatically expand by itself.

So essentially not a problem for "permanent notifications".

Found the battery life to be horrific once I updated to Jelly Bean. However, after looking at alternative ROMS, I decided to do a factory reset and it appears to have helped massively. That and I've not reinstalled Facebook Messenger which probably helps too :D

Only just found the productivity lock screen notification widget, not sure if it was in the previous version? I love it though - once thing I liked about the Lumia 800 was the calender notifications on the lock screen and now I have them here!

The other great new (?) thing was the ability to hide apps in the app drawer. Very useful. Now I've got a Surface for videos, surfing etc. I'm using the phone purely as a communications device/mp3 player. Helps to keep the apps to a minimum anyway but nice to just have 2 screens of useful stuff.

Yeah the lock screen widgets for agenda, photos, people, texts etc. have been there since the first version of sense 4 iirc, I just use a blank black wallpaper :p

Not sure about the hide app feature for stock sense as I have only used the sense launcher for like 4 days, if even that :p but I think it is new with sense V4+ :)

Shows how much I pay attention to the personalisation settings!

I've thought about changing launchers but to be honest Sense is more than good enough. Used to run the MIUI ROM on my old Desire which was brilliant compared to the Froyo version of Sense on that phone but the new version is much more clean and cohesive. Got to the point where I'd rather use the phone than fiddling!

Thinking of picking up a charging/USB dock for the One S. Has anyone got any recommendations?

EDIT: Think I'll make my own having looked at the quality/price of the ones I can find!

Yeah the sense launcher is very nice and the widgets are superb! But I like to tinker (a lot!) so nova for me :p

I got this one here and my mini review of it can be found here :)

You could probably get a similar one from amazon for a good bit cheaper though.

help.

i used htcdev to root the phone (?)

i then flashed TWRP onto the phone.

now i need to flash a kernel right? which one do i use?

edit: i want to end up with cm10 on the phone :) i can get as far as the cm10 loading screen which just sits there

edit: nevermind! got paranoid android to work. shame about cm10!

my signal drops out every so often even when i have the radio switched to GSM only. :/ i know for a fact my house has full GSM signal 100% throughout. so i think there may be something up with my phone. im not sure if it affects all one S's though!

Have never experienced the helicopter/home button issue and I don't think anyone else here has apart from two people? I think a few people over at xda have said that the issue was fixed or that it doesn't happen as much with jb update.....

Signal has always been good for me, at first it wasn't very consistent but with the second last update it much improved especially when you have a h/3g connection. Haven't noticed much more improvement with the jb update.

I would say that if you don't get good signal anyway then you might have some iissues but if you have good signal etc. You should be fine.

Has anyone had any WiFi issues since the JB update? Only got round to doing it yesterday, and since the update, my wifi does not work. It switches on fine, connects to my network, and the notification icon appears. It tells me I am connected, yet the phone will not use the wifi. Play store says no connection, speedtest reports network errors and I am unable to sync any accounts. Switch over to H/3G and everything works fine. I am baffled. Could is be some kind of conflict?

After the update, it started downloading how to`s, which appeared to be taking ages. Clearly the wifi broke after the phone turned back on.

Laptop and Nexus 7 are working fine on same network. As is my other half`s One S, which she updated yesterday.

Any suggestions?

I am not totally against starting again for a clean update.
How big a job is the factory reset? Never had to do it before. How do I go on with my apps and game progress etc?

HELP ! :p

You tried reconnecting to your WiFi from scratch? so manually remove your WiFi network and then scan for wifi and reconnect to it, if that doesn't work, try resetting your router (worth a try)

And if none of that works then factory reset :(

It will pretty much reset your phone completely back to stock, you can backup app settings generally with the app itself or with my backup pro from the market.

Game saves will be lost, only way to back them up is to root and use titanium AFAIK.

And make sure you backup your photos, videos etc.

It sounds like an IP conflict with some other device (2 devices are using the same internal/LAN IP)

Thanks Nexus

Tried the forget network, reset the router etc to no avail.
I am going to see If I can connect at work this morning. Rubbish internet at work though, so it may have to wait until tonight.

No problem.

Shame that didn't work, not sure what else you could try doing apart from a factory reset :(

After having used the mobile with the jb update for a while now, I am 100% sure that battery life isn't as good as it was on ics for me. So going to try manual control of screen brightness instead of auto. Unfortunately I don't think it will improve until we get the 4.1.2 update, that is if we even get that update :p

Well, I can connect to the wifi at work, but same symptoms as at home. Connected, but not, if that makes sense.

Looks like a reset is unavoidable now.

Something else I noticed is that in settings, the beats audio is grayed out, saying its not available on phone speaker. Its prob right, but I have nothing to compare. :p

I also notice that the way the phone connects to the PC has now changed. Is it no longer possible to just browse to the dcim folder and just copy all the pictures/videos accross?

Perhaps I should have stayed with ICS :D

Beats audio only works when headphones are plugged in.

Not sure about the usb connection to pc as I transfer everything wirelessy via estrongs or airdroid :p Will try later and see though.

Ah I see. I hate change :D

Anyways, Windows XP is causing the transfer headache. Took it to a windows 7 machine and it was fine. Just backing up ready for reset.

Update later.
