PROJECT: MAGNUS AQUA DOMUS!

Today has been a little slower then I would I liked, though I did get quite a bit done, still hunting for a charger for my drill too.

Part of the reason today has been so slow is this fella, laying on everything I touch :(

Got the MOSFET block installed:

MSI REALLY like their TIM:

Block on:

That backplate...just wow.

Will update with more pics tonight/tomorrow just got the other GPU block to install now I'm happy it doesn't leak. Provided I find the charger tonight or can get to work tomorrow I Should be finished somewhat tomorrow as I now have the stand offs for the CPU block too :D

As awesome as the backplates look, and as awesome as OcUK are, they are not to my taste. Personally I would have had the OcUK logo much smaller and in the corner, or not at all. Or maybe even in grayscale :D

It was my choice to have them that big, I was torn between big logo and small OCUK/AMD/MSI logo's down one edge.

The skys the limit really with what designs I could have had, I'll be picking a different design when I change cards when the 8970's arrive :)

Thats nothing to what the second card had on it, absolutely swimming in TIM :o

Can't really move much further forward until I get the holes drilled for the 1080 ports :(

Searched high and low for a charger its just gone, will have to swing by work tomorrow and pick up another drill.

Lol classic wait for x chip... Why? 3930k has been the top dog for about a year. And spending this much on a tank setup is ridiculous... May as well have just got z77. Or went for a 3930k. Look how disappointing the gtx titan was and the 3570k in terms of improvements from previous gen stuff (gtx 680/90 and 2500k respectively).

Haha fair enough :) How are the logo's printed onto the backplates? Is that pad printing?

Will be interesting to see what kind of performance the next generation of AMD cards bring. It was a nice jump from 6000 to 7000 series :)

I'm more of an NVIDIA guy personally, mainly because I love PhysX :p

Had an FX5200 (those were some dark, dark times ), 8800GS, GTX480 and now this GTX660 :)

Hopefuly I'll have a build log in a few months :D I have a rough plan to do a re-build of my sig rig with a few changed parts (mobo, ssd, psu, cooler, case, another 660 or maybe sell it and get a 670 and a tad more RAM). Nothing as elaborate or powerful as yours mind :p

I had plans to spend £800+ on a chip, I may as well wait until the final top end for that socket arrives, even if it does bring slight core improvements, it will most certainly bring improved IMC, my methodology. I went over this a few posts/pages back. Besides, a 3820 is faster then a 26/700K and will clock far higher then a 3770K under normal circumstances. Since I set my heart on a final move over to X79 my game plan was ALWAYS to start with a 3820 then to high end IB-E. I don't think Titan is a let down, over-priced, certainly, but it does what it says on the tin.

Ahh I think I had (and still have somewhere!) an FX5200 from circa 2004? I'm expecting big things from AMD on the next gen, they have finally figured out how to harness GCN and Titan has set the pace nicely :)

I believe it was 2003 - 2004 ish yeah :) 128MB VRAM on it. What a beast. Paired with my old Pentium 4 Northwood and 2GB DDR I could just about play Battlefield 2 :D

Titan just came along and smashed everything else up. When I saw the benchmark results I thought I had stepped 4 years into the future :p

Oh the plates are laser cut from a single sheet of acrylic then the logo is pressed into the gaps with coloured acrylic :)

Yep still have my 3.06ghz p4 with HT that it was paired with somewhere, I remember playing half life 2 on it so I can't have been that bad though iirc I was stuck with a mere 512mb ram.

Ah thats a great way to make them! Far better than the method I mentioned. Looking at them again armed with this new knowledge, I suddenly like them a-lot more :D

Your P4 would beat mine by leaps and bounds.

It is a 2.8GHz socket 478 P4 w/o HyperThreading. It spent most of its life with 512MB RAM, but I found a couple of 1GB sticks :p

Yep, he can also laser-etch an image into the acrylic too, they just look stunning, will look even better once they are in my system later today.

Nipped into work this morning, grabbed a charger and a spare battery to get everything drilled today, also picked up the 280 radiator, everything looking good to go for completion today

Awesome :) I look forward to seeing it :D

:p

His brother has been 'helping' today. Like sitting on a panel I'm trying to fit a radiator to

Almost ready to start plumbing, 280 radiator is fitted (had to slightly modify fans to fit) & 1080 panel is drilled, grommets fitted and radiator fitted.

Next to do (possibly in this order!):
  • Fit CPU block and ram
  • Fit and secure rear pannel, start sorting cables out
  • Fit GPU's into system
  • Start plumbing
  • leak test
  • Deal with the possiblity of something going wrong, take it all apart and get drunk.

Still at it, just finishing up the cable management :)

I may leave filling it and bleeding until tomorrow, its been an effort today :D

Also I don't suppose anyone is familiar with the wiring on dimastech switches are they? My brains completely fried.
