You are clearly missing the point. I know plasma are better. So don't be trying to turn it into a led vs plasma thread.......

Far from doing that mate. I was simply going by your previous post:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying my model of tv is the best if best but sure, price vs performance its great.

The 50GT50 at it's current price tag has got to be the best price vs performance set on the market there currently is ;)

mine is arriving next thursday 50" GT50 for £700 after price matching and gift cards/vouchers, 5 year warranty and hopefully 2 x 3D glasses which cost about £50 each. so the set is costing me £600 if you take all the above into account.

people paid £1400 for this set last year around May, so definitely a steal atm

Ok wow that is good!

Mmmm, must resist.......

for more detail the set actually costs £899 from john lewis, I got it price matched for £809.99 iirc which is now not available, so you will need to try and find your own price match if you can. I then used £105 worth of vouchers which I was given as a present last year. the deal for the glasses is also first come first served and only running until the end of this month with not many left.

so I am paying £704.99 cash for the 50" GT50

basically you would need to order today or tomorrow to be in with a chance of receiving the glasses for free and they are worth around £100.

they are active glasses, therefore a lot more expensive than passive ones, also samsung sell compatible ones for £15 iirc, whereas panasonic's are £45+, I don't know if there is any difference in 3D quality between the two but the price difference is huge as you can see, so I really do hope I get them.

if I don't get the glasses then fair enough, they were just a bonus, I can steal the D8000 glasses from downstairs which are compatible I hope (50" GT50 is for the bedroom, 51" D8000 is in the living room and has 4 sets of 3D glasses, 2 came with the tv @ £769 and 2 were bought from comet for £15 each).

plasma's are being phased out, this may be the last year you ever see such a deal, that is why I am buying now, if you wait potentially you will not see a tv of this quality at this price brand new again for a very long time. especially if it is true this is the last year (2013 models) of the GT and below being produced. from next year it is supposedly VT and ZT only which are very very expensive sets. this is all rumours though, nothing confirmed.

The other alternative would be Samsung E series plasmas which are better in some ways and worse in others compared to the Panasonics... I would go into the shop and watch the Panasonics and see if the flickering bothers you because some people are like "what flickering?!" but for me it is blatantly obvious and hard to watch... The Samsungs do not flicker... Not sure what is going to happen to Samsung Plasma... I guess they will stop production as well soon and move on to OLED.

they aren't they are £45+, someone asked what model no they were on avforums and i googled it and the cheapest price i saw online was £45 from a retailer i have never heard of, others were much more expensive, i then posted in the thread saying why are they so expensive and the reply i got was that they are active glasses not passive and everything made by panasonic is expensive.

Wow that is cheap.... How much of it was vouchers?

John Lewis RRP = £899
Price matched another store for £810
£105 vouchers
= £705 total cash price

then i send away a claim for free glasses which as above are worth £100 roughly, so i could potentially sell the glasses for £90+ meaning cost of tv is £615 ish roughly

so long as the promotion doesn't run out, panasonic rep said stock was running low, i just hope it holds out til thursday

Hmmm can't say that look really appeals to me even if it does help improve the look of the black levels on the screen, but then again I haven't really seen a good example of it.

it costs you £25 for the kit, i ordered mine today.

it's not for looks, it's for the sake of your own eyes and personal health.

myself at night turn all the lights off and close the curtains to watch a movie, this then means when a scene changes from a lot of light to a dark one, your eyes need to adjust, then if an explosion happens or it changes back to a brightly lit scene your eyes get strained from constantly adjusting, causing headaches, fatigue, tiredness, etc.

BIAS lighting helps PQ but also saves your eyes from being stressed, by having a white light behind your tv, your eyes no longer dilate, etc, because on dark scenes the light from behind the tv is enough to be able to see what is going on. black levels are improved also.

there are 2 types of LED kits, coloured or white only, you need the white one, colours are for show purposes and actually make PQ worse.

here is the thread

http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-tvs/1263485-plasma-ambient-lighting-26.html

it has many many examples of BIAS lighting.

I was originally going to go for a cheap £3 lamp and an energy saver, but then i figured i would like a switch on the lamp, so lamp price went up to £10-£15, then i was told that i need a "daylight" bulb which is only available online, cannot get them in a b and q, you would need to go to a specialist store so it was coming to £15 for the bulb with postage. therefore rather than spend £30 on a crap setup, why not just buy a decent setup from ebay for £25.

this is the LED strip

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271078701...4.m1438.l2649&clk_rvr_id=463492682046&afsrc=1

i ordered the 5050 in 5 metres with the power for £18.99 (apparently 5 metres is good for 50"to 60" tv's, therefore adjust according to your own screen, if it is a 42" try a 3 metre one maybe or get a 5 metre and cut it in the proper place)

and this is the dimmer wireless setup with leads

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271089629...4.m1438.l2649&clk_rvr_id=463497419655&afsrc=1

£4.69 from asia, there are UK sellers if you need it pronto, but I can figure I can use the LED on it's own until it arrives and save myself £5

check that picture out to see what a LED strip can do, it is outputting a white backlight onto a blue wall, obviously if the wall was white or black (any neutral colour tbh, like grey is fine too), it would improve PQ further.

these are the LED's i have purchased apart from these are the 3258 which are not as bright as the 5050 (the one's i bought) it's also the same tv i have ordered by the looks of it too, so my setup is going to be the same apart from a light grey wall behind it

Hmmm I guess it does look pretty cool although I might leave it as an after thought. Got a whole new 5.1 set up on its way this week so more than enough to think about for now!

I am starting to develop a slight concern over the new GT50 that will be delivered to me on Thursday as I read more and more about screen burn... I want a TV without having to worry about ruining it forever if I game too much or fall asleep with a static image on the screen.. Hope someone will put my mind at rest and tell me why I chose plasma over LED? :(
