The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

AFAIK most people don't use VSYNC because of input lag. G-SYNC solves this.

But to be honest I would be buying this monitor with or without gsync because supports high res 120hz+ gaming. No other monitor does this.

This, but with the lack of information from Asus or not seeing any reviews of this, i'm going to hold off pre ordering! Is there some sort of NDA on this monitor i've not heard any rumours of being one?

Surely if the monitor was that special Asus would want the good reviews to gain more publicity and thus generating more pre orders?

As i'm gaming on a 60Hz 40" Samsung TV i'm so tempted to just order the 144Hz 27" BenQ and be done with it!

Same, I'm wondering whether to quit waiting for this and get the AOC G-sync. I dont want to wait another month for news about the asus and find out its going to be getting close to £1000 in price.

I think I might wait it out, looks like it's going to be a hefty premium to be the first to have one and within a year there's probably going to be a few similar monitors knocking around probably under £500. ASUS customer service and quality control wouldn't make me feel confident in buying early either.

Just what I have done, couldn't wait any longer so bought the benq to tide me over. Couldn't game (bf4) on the one I had and as only 20 units are coming I doubt I would have got one.

30 pages. Jesus...I won't hold my breath just yet with so little units coming through customs

I look at this two ways

1. I am frustrated at the delay and fear for ASUS missing the boat with AOC brining theirs out first; OR

2. I would rather they hold back and get it right and avoid the nonsense that LG are putting their customers through with the large/wide 34UMXX series

Hi there

Well guys, I got to play on a G-Sync monitor yesterday for first time in the flesh.

It was not my perfect setup as the machine I played on had a GTX 680 in it and I was playing Metro maxed out, averaging 25-35fps on FRAPS but I have to admit it was the smoothest 30fps game I had ever seen.

The G-Sync monitor made the game look awesome, there was never any tearing or any kind of jerkiness or frame skipping of any kind.

I did ask the NVIDIA rep how about on a 780Ti and he did say it still offers an improvement but it is less noticeable on higher-end hardware but still adds a benefit as even high-end hardware with 60fps plus average can still have tearing which the G-Sync still eliminates.

So I think if you truly want the best gaming experience the G-Sync monitors helps improve it, the effects on lower-end hardware GTX 6xx series and say GTX 770 and below there is a clear advantage. On the higher-end hardware then yes it is less so but there is still an advantage.

So having now seen it, played games on it I have to say thank you to NVIDIA for such a technology, it will without doubt making gaming a more pleasant experience and of course with VESA Freesync coming in the future it will no doubt be available to all irrelevant of hardware used in 2015. :)

As for updates on this Swift, I email Asus every day asking them, but still no idea on price and no idea of volume.

But I will admit if Asus are only going to ship very limited volume in the first few weeks and not able to meet demand we will simply have no option than to keep price high for those who want the product immediately and are happy to pay a higher price, for those who do not mind waiting a little longer we shall setup a pre-order product at a better price.

Thanks for the update gibbo. I will be a likely purchaser of this, but not on initial shipment as I have a limit to what I will spend and I imagine this will be priced a couple of hundred £ over my limit initially simply down to demand and lack of supply.

Good to hear your impressions of gsync also. Definetly appears to be a well thought out and well implemented technology.

Asus have managed to get us a lot more stock, so no need to for two separate SKU's now, but stock will still be very tight so the early adopter price is still a bit higher than usual.

Once stock is free flowing we should be able to do deals on them around the £659.99 Inc. VAT mark. :)

Just out of interest Gibbo, G-Sync aside, what did you think of the monitor? Did it look any better than your average TN panel?

Colours and viewing angles have improved that is for sure. But its still not an IPS/MVA for colour reproduction or viewing angles.

But for playing FPS games I can't see a better solution than G-Sync enabled monitor. :)
