The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

I'm hoping with the lower price than expected with the new AOC gsync monitors there shouldn't be too much of a bump in price. I don't see why Asus would limit the amount coming to the UK to only 20, I can understand production times, etc but if there is demand it should be supplied. If OCUK go to Asus with say 50 pre-orders for this monitor then I don't see any reason why they would not try to deliver this number + extra for non pre orders.

Well atleast they are real, and coming. Thats got to be something. I was bugeting around £500 for this monitor so won't be wading in :( Sad, because I was really looking forward to this.

Same, that was my realistic budget. Not sure what to do now, I will have built pc by the end of the weekend. Im not then waiting until the end of the year for a monitor...

Might take a punt on AOC's 24 inch g sync monitor. And then look at the multitude of 4k options which will be out this time next year, along with new gpu's to power it.

ASUS must have a moron of a CEO because releasing a product at much higher than the announced RRP and in such limited numbers makes no business sense whatsoever, You make absolute peanuts with the mark up because of the number of units and you alienated a huge customer base by either people feeling ripped off or frustrated that they can't get one.

What I don't get is how Asus can possibly mark it up, they've been waving the $799 RRP since the beginning of the year, they'd look daft charging anything other then that price.

Retailers putting a big mark up on the other hand...You can just imagine it....

Asus: First batch, the UK is getting 20 units
Retailer: Really? That sucks, on the flip side I can now mark up an extra few hundred quid on it as I know its in demand.

If number of units are that weak, it probably means it got so delayed that they decided to ship the units from the initial pilot runs before main volume production gets under way.

I'd be very wary of it being a shoddy product, or at least early ones being so.

LOL. If you think their CEO has anything to do with this kind of thing, you're rather mistaken.

Anyway, I suspect this botched release has as much to do with NVIDIA (ASUS' partner) being desperate for a halo product for G-Synch to be released as it does to do with ASUS.

how do you come to that conclusion exactly?

Gsync works, others have it, used it and all pretty much love it.

Asus have had gsync info longer than everyone else, shouted off about this monitor over 6 months ago, said it would be with us in a couple of months - here we are, a couple of tech shows later and still we know nothing more than we did in December/January.

Like many on this post, I was keen to see this, if I had to have a guess, the amazing VA panel they said they had is probably utter toss and that has caused the delay.

The only G-Synch product available on the market is STILL a semi-productionised retro-fit module for a single ASUS, that was used throughout NVIDIA's prototyping process.

AOC are supposedly just about to have one hit, but it's been "just about to" for, what, 6 weeks now? Assuming stock finally does arrive this month, then it'll be 8 months since G-Synch('s promised flood of SKUs) was announced.

It's not a VA panel. It's a TN panel. I suspect the panel has been ready to go since it was announced.

The AOC g2460Pg has been due at the end of June or early July for a while now. Some news websites jumped the gun by stating it was due earlier than that. I certainly agree with what you're speculating on regarding Nvidia having a lot to do with the fairly universal delay of G-SYNC monitors.
