What exactly will this do and how much battery improvement would you expect to gain?

The problem with google services is it keeps awake in the background, this basically stops this drain. The app also allows you to see other apps that have the ability to "Keep Awake" in the background, producing even more battery savings for yourself. If services are an issue for you, I would expect to see a big improvement in battery life for you, it did for me. You have full control of google services also by the way, this won't hinder the service in any way.

If it's a design quirk I'm happy, as it works when pressed centrally and I can adapt. But if it's a dodgy button on my particular handset my OCD won't let me keep it considering what it's costing me over two years! Please would you guys try it out and let me know? :o :D

I can click mine from any position. Works fine.

What is touchwiz?

It's a total mind****.

Thanks for replying. :) I've just gotten handset #3 and the guy in CPW was hugely rude and arrogant. He refused to even look at me or the new handset when I saw it had what seemed to be a chip in the metal, and said 'You will never get one without at least a single chip or fault in it, just take it.' and he walked away! I should add that CPW overall have been the most positive experience I've had for phones. They are courteous, offer generally no fuss exchanges and offered a great rate with cash back.

Luckily it turned out to be some kind of epoxy/resin/glue and it scraped off with a bit of spit and a fingernail. Working home button from every corner, check. Working screen with no funny pixels, check. Working camera, check. Third time lucky? I bloody hope so!

The only difference this time is handset #3 has a Samsung sensor whereas #1 and #2 were Sony sensors. I know overall the Sony has the better DOF and slightly brighter daytime colours, but since most of my photos are indoor (baby pics etc) I'm actually happy to get the Samsung sensor with better white balance and low light ability.

I always, always have a mission finding a decent handset. Maybe OEMs should employ more guys like me in QC to begin with lol.

Is a new name required?

Yes sir, something short and sweet? GS7? I need to think ahead :p

At least you got a replacement. Still sounds like poor service to me though, being arrogant and then walking away!? I wont be using them anytime soon.

Anyone know of a way of ensuring that that handset I buy (want to get it off-contract) would definitely have the Sony sensor?

I know I'm being ridiculously fussy, but I only want the Sony sensor. I actually already bought a handset from EE (£509.99) and returned as it had the ISOCELL sensor.
I'm now thinking that buying second hand (gumtree/ebay) might be the only option that would enable me to check and still be able to send it back (obviously in the case of gumtree, I'd just check before I bought).
Any ideas?

Yeah but that's one guy in one store. Every other interaction (out of over half a dozen) was flawless and I still ended up with a perfect handset. Other companies tend to not be so accommodating about swapping hardware until you find one that you're happy with. Add in that CPW offer BTU ROMs (no carrier bloat, no computrace etc) and it's a winrar for me.

((snip))

Buy online and use the 14/28 day (DSR / CPW) exchange window to 'change your mind' and try again? FWIW my first two handsets had Sony sensors and my third (final) handset has a Samsung sensor. So far I've found no appreciable difference between them. Although in reviews Sony sensors have a marginal better DOF, the Samsung sensor doesn't lag behind in the real world, and it lacks (thankfully) the Sony sensor's awful blue cast in lower light and is also better at taking images at night. For me overall I think I'm glad I got the Samsung sensor in my 'keeper' handset but I wouldn't have complained either way. Fantastic shots that have blown me away for clarity, white balance, colour etc have been produced from both sensors so I'm more than happy either way.

How did you return it to EE? They don't do returns on pay and go.

You know the performance is pretty much identical with the Samsung one actually being better in some cases right?
