The Pascal GTX 1070 Owners Thread

To be fair, the MSI twin forzr is probably the best cooler i have ever had on a graphics card (on my 980). Whilst the AMP extreme cooler on my 1070 is probably better at cooling (the card doesnt seem to go much above 60 even in this hot weather) it is more audible due to it being noticable when the fans click on and off. On the MSI cooler it was completely unoticable and seamless. In terms of actual fan noise, when on there probably isnt a lot in it.

However, i got the AMP extreme at such a good price, the extra for the MSI card (or any of the other cards for that matter) was not worth it.

As for the size (2.0 or 2.5 slot) - it really doesnt bother me. I dont intend to go sli and i have a big motherboard and case anyway so ive got more than enough room.

I have seen that the Extreme card is measured to be 32cm or so long. Is that a measurement from where is would fit at the bracket to the very end of the card...?
I am trying to figure out if it will fit without needing to remove a HD bay in my R5 Define case.

What I have noticed with the new card is that sag is becoming a real concern now, I was looking at my poor motherboards PCIE slot and thinking 'Hang in the bud, I know she weighs a ton but she's a right beast when she gets going!'

I can't decide which one to go for :'(

After watching a few vids I am tending to steer towards a Gigabyte Gaming. It is shorter than the sagging Zotac Extreme and I have enjoyed the use of gigabytes UK based warranty and returns, the Zotac needs to be sent back to Hong Kong for their extended warranty.

This was one I had watched...

^^ OCUK cover the 5 year warranty on the ZOTAC, according to this post by Gibbo.

We will cover you for the 5yr! :)

Any problems with RMA on Zotac, just show my post here, but they will sort you out, it does mean however we can handle the RMA but if no replacement we are in the hands of Zotac either repairing product or authorising a suitable replacement.

That is impressive. I had only just received a reply from the CS section of this forum, after speaking to Zotac on the phone who confirmed the Hong Kong shipment for returns, and the CS agent just pointed me in the direction of the Zotac website and UK phone number for any RMA queries. It could suggest that OCUK's CS are not aware of what Gibbo has assured us.

It could get drawn out though if there isn't a replacement and Zotac wish to make a repair or replacement through them, as Gibbo noted.

I could be wrong on this but Gigabytes UK service and returns offer a two working days turnaround.

When I last dealt with Gigabyte they picked up my motherboard for free and returned it also with no charge. That was after I had damaged the socket, and they did not charge me for the repairs they did.
That sort of service, whether typical or not, tends to focus future choices.

Any advice on the G1 gaming guys?
Guru3d mention the lack of ventilation on the backplate
Could this be a issue I'm seriously tempted with this card..
Thanks all

Take a look at that video link I posted a little further up, it goes into detail about the G1 gaming and the cooling etc. It seems pretty impressive and the card is very quiet.

I just went with the G1 gaming, should get here tomorrow :D
Once I get it I need to RMA my 970.

I have the G1, very lite to hold..almost like a toy lol...I dont use the extreme software it came with though..and out of the box it boosts to 1945MHz...but I did notice that at and above 60c it seems to clock down to 1936MHz, for me it does anyway .

And @adger1971 , I myself have had no issues with temps at all...even when we had those pretty hot days :)

That may well be the case alright :-). I purchased the Zotac 1070 amp extreme. It's an impressive card. I got a poor overclocker, which is the only negative, and a very minor one at that. But there is no coil whine, and the cooler is very quiet, so I'm happy.

I bought the 1070 to tide me over till the 1080ti or Vega. So I 'm not overly concerned with warranty length. It may be of more concern to those who intend to keep their GPU for a longer period than me.

That is excellent service. If I resided in the Uk that would make me seriously consider Gigabyte. Had a similar experience with Asus. pleasure to deal with. Was a few years ago mind (x58 mobo).

Purchased Just Cause 3 yesterday and loving it so far. Great visuals and fun game :)

This is the only game so far I am using my 1070 OC'd and it runs very nicely at 2100MHz core and 9200MHz memory, all while hovering around 60c :D

Able to keep average 60fps at 4K (no aa) and it works great with fast sync.

O.o Strange point of view.

Personally I don't see why someone should spend more for MSI or EVGA when Palit, Inno3D and Zotac offer the same (and often better) performance for less money.

From the Palit Jetstream at 389£ to the Gaming X and FTW at 469£ you're paying 80£ for the brand.
Nothing strange about it. I'd take the MSI over the AMP Extreme any day, even if I had to pay a bit more. Zotac's coolers are huge, ugly and come with fans (and fan controllers) of questionable quality. I've read about the same "revving" issue that plagued the 980 Ti AMP Extreme rearing its head again, and as somebody sensitive to noise it completely removed them from contention for me. Their raw cooling performance may be amazing (and you'd want it to be with a heatsink of that size), but there are more important quality of life issues to consider for me personally.

You're not wrong about the Palit though, as that's easily the best value 1070 on the market, but he didn't ask about that and I've spent enough time banging the Palit drum since the 980 days only for nobody to ever buy one. I only mentioned the FTW as an alternative because it's similarly-priced to the MSI and essentially identical in terms of performance. I also didn't pay £470 for my FTW. Shopping around... FTW. ;)
