I've been playing Medal Of honor Allied Assault for the lst 6 years almost non stop and I figured its time for a change.

I don't like the slower FPS games, i've tried CSS and i absolutly hated it ( bring on the bandwagon )

I'm asking for recommendations for an online fast paced FPS game. I really have no idea because I don't tend to play more than one game at once.

Been looking at Quake 3 although I don't know which version to get, also been looking at UT.

Fire away :)

if its intense online fps then Day of Defeat source is number 1, dont worry its nothing like css although its a steep learning curve which usually puts peeps off, other than that maybe 2142 or bf2

Fastest FPS is arguably Quakeworld (Quake3 isn't even remotely the same speed, although CPM closes the gap). Over 10 years old now but still being actively developed by the community. A word of warning though - the learning curve is extremely steep and even people who have been playing for a couple of years are typically regarded as newbies :)

Modern client (with a lot of enhancements to help new players get setup) here: http://ezquake.sf.net

Help available on Quakenet IRC at #qwrookie #quakeworld
www.quakeworld.nu also has a forum you may find useful.

To get a taster of what the game is like, if you have the bandwidth maybe check out some movies from here: http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/trailers/movies/quakeworld/?N=A
In particular I'd recommend DDE3, QWRE, and TFDE2.

Wow, thanks for the info HangTime, will consider it :)

Tried Battlefield 2 or 2142?

Yes, got bored of BF2, ran for 2 miles then got shot in the back by a guy with a sniper in a building, didn't errreally like it much.

2142 I failed to understand which drove me away from it. + its expensive hehe :)

Looking for a game to sharpen up my reactions a lot, find myself falling asleep and not fully wired into the game some of the time and its starting to get bad

Jaffa_Cake,

I'm suprised you didn't jump on the Call of Duty bandwagon, thats what I did and lots of other MOH gamers. Looks like thats coming to and end if your into your WWII games so wait it out a few more months and get MOH:Airbourne.

Another one I recommend is Red Orchestra, its doesn't look brilliant but give it a try and your see its good. (stands back and waits for the response to that).

:D

I own both COD and COD2 but they never really caught on for me, found the movement awkward but the gameplay good fun, not a big fan of the old iron sights, prefer good old crosshair and screw the 'its not realistic' whiners

I will indeed be waiting for Airborne but I don't have high hopes after Pacific Assault.

If you don't mind an old game based on the Halflife engine then Day of Defeat is worth a look, if not try the source version.

UT2004 is all you need.

I have this installed as this was my original plan, thought I would check on here incase I was makign the wrong choice chosing that as my main game :)

Big learning curve from what i'm used too.

Xfire for anyone who wants to thrash me at UT2K4 :D :D

DoD 1.3 imo is a slower paced game :) the maps tended to be larger and more open from what I can recall. Getting a good position was key in 1.3

However DoD:Source tends to be a different breed of game now, there is much much more rushing, spraying and general fast paced action, which I do like :) The maps are a bit smaller and sometimes feel very confined, especially the release maps, but it is worth having a look :)

And if you want to try it I may have a guest pass if it's available.
