XP SP3 gives speed boost

explain?

the only way i see vista as faster than xp is by using speedboost, all that does is open programs quickly

all real-life situations i've seen, like mp3 or xvid encoding have been faster in xp

this wasn't meant to be a vista bashing thread, i think it's a great os, was just posting to show the early reports that sp3 may breathe a life of fresh air into xp, which is never a bad thing :)

I don't know about encoding (Vegas 7 had issues on Vista x64 for me so I've done all that stuff on XP) but for general usage I've found it faster at everything else. How is Photoshop opening in 3 seconds not a good thing. Keeping in mind that Vista has the overheads of indexing and that superfetch which won't have at all settled down.

Anyway, all good for XP SP3, but how much can you read into a site using early RCs? The underlying technology suggests there can't be any real speed increase in any obvious way, so I think we'll just have to take this with a very small pinch of salt.

That link is indeed having a dig at vista with the vista=Windows-ME reloaded comment & knowing full well that 1GB for vista is like 256MB of ram or XP & vista will need more time to settle down than XP with only 1GB of ram.

I have used vista with 1GB & it struggles & 2GB its smooth sailing right from the start.

what the hell is office bench?

i googled it and the only pages i can find that reference it, all link back to the network of sites that run that blog. pretty lame if you ask me. :o

and look at the other article titles....

Vista SP1 a Performance Dud
What Intel Giveth, Microsoft Taketh Away
Vista Aero: What a CPU Hog! (wtf? :D)

i mean seriously, come on.......

Sorry mate, but it just doesn't perform any worse, not on either of the machines I use it on (CS3).

Performs a lot worse for me on vista, than on XP.

Little better with Vista SP1 RC Preview, but still not on par with xp, like with most things, all my apps load near instant on xp and run great, im guessing some people dont know how to setup windows properly :p

Everyone knows by now that Vista is slower than Windows XP. In fact, my own testing shows it to be roughly twice as slow on the same hardware (see our upcoming Test Center study for more details). That's because Vista is a far more complex operating system, with many additional features and background services that simply don't exist under XP.

LOL :D This guy is priceless :D:D
