XP SP3 gives speed boost

Why - all that does is disable the fancy stuff, it has nothing to do with responsiveness of the os, the speed the windows open/shut with the fancy stuff on isn't an issue, that's not really any different, its more the physical menu's being slow which in turn slows me down - for example in xp you can adjust (tweak ui) the menu speed, none of the adjustments in the effects tab can change that.

Well i posted that because of this line you said earlier "However the os feels slower due to all the fancy animations etc they have on each window, especially if you've tweaked xp to your liking etc."

I also said the programs were running as fast or faster than xp, something feeling slower doesn't mean it is slower, plus I said etc which means more than just the animations :D. Its the time it takes to do the little things which take time, not the opening and closing of windows, that isn't done very often.

Hardware prices are very cheap now so there's no reason why someone buying Vista would be complaining about it running slow because they've got a slowass PC. I'm sorry but if you're paying £115 for Ultimate OEM for example then you've got usable money to upgrade some components to make sure your new OS runs nice and fast.

Been using Vista since Feb2007 and back then had 2gb ram, x2 4200+, now have quad core and 4gb ram and have seen a considerable boost in response and performance of Vista.

Nothing but happy thoughts.

would be interesting to see a comparison on a high end machine between the two, in many benchmarking tests

like,,
pcmark
xvid
lame
3dmark

I think thats what is needed benchmarks
[Vista x32/x64 w/SP1 / SP1] && [XP Home x32 / XP Pro x32/x64 w/SP1/SP2/SP3]

yeah

both with a few basic tweaks applied, like defender off, indexing off, visuals off

The thing is though Bledd, benchmarks are good but I still think all this Vista and XP talk is down to an individual choice and how the person likes the feel. I absolutly love Vista but back on XP for now.

I keep going back and forth. Should really duel boot but got images using acronis for that and all my data is on a different drive anyway.

Benchmarks would be good so people can refer to them to see whats what but with hardware developing all the time its pretty hard to compare. Many people has 1GB/2GB/4Gb ram e.t.c so really its down to a personal choice.
