Glad the KB/Mouse thing is still happening for the PS3 (no word on 360 yet), I hadn't heard it mentioned for a long while thought it may of been cut but looks like its still in there. Not sure about balancing but at least you can choose to play against keyboard and mouse or just controller.

Folks,

I checked with Steve Polge and he said that YES we are supporting keyboard and mouse in Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3. He is confident we are doing it in a way that will be balanced without feeling "gimped" for either side. We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not.

I think you guys are going to love UT3!

More details to come later.

It won't happen on 360, at least i hope it won't would completely ruin the game.

Why?

Just gives users more choice surely

I could understand it if you were worried about Multiplayer impacts, But it states clearly, that you have the choice to stop mixed control games.

Which for me, makes it only a good move? I cant for the life of me see a game ruining implimentation

It just divides the user base, what happens if some of my friends want to play with mouse and others joypads? in the end it is always best if everyone is on a level playing field. If you want to play UT3 with a mouse get it on pc.

If your friends want to play with keyboards/mice and the others pads, then choose that option.

The way I see it, If you want to Play UT3 with a mouse, you just choose the option on the PS3 or 360 now. Rather than worrying about whether you have a good enough computer.

Like I said its balanced and its upto you if play against KB/mouse or not. In driving games, I mostly use a steering wheel, does that mean i shouldnt play against people who use a controller as its unfair to them, surely thats not a level playing field?

A little bit off topic, but does the steering wheel improve games now? as i used to have a steering wheel for the Gamecube, played Burnout and found it really bad.

Just wondering if theres been improvement? As i love the idea, just never found a wheel that felt realistic (I understand its never gonna feel like im sat in a car seat :p )

the comparison isn't the same, the steering wheel does not give a significant advantage (if any) over a game pad. Its widely acknowledged that a mouse an keyboard is far far superior to a gamepad.

But then if people who find keyboards and mice superior to gamepads can use one.

Or alternatively, People who dont find that the case, can use a gamepad.

Or yet again, They can stay seperate, and keyboard/mice players can versus, and gamepad users can versus. Or if people arent that bothered, You could have mixed versus.

Like I said, I see no opportunity for disapointment.

I always do better with a wheel than joypad, maybe its just me but it always feel like its more natural driving that way. Same as people who only play FPS on consoles will possibly prefer to use a joypad. Cant see how its an issue, it must only be a good thing to have the choice there if you want it.

It depends if people can get around it or not. Chav A joins joypad only game, game starts, said chav pulls it out, plugs keyboard mouse in, hammers the opposition, game ends and claims he's the best thing since sliced bread.

Seems somebody is a little sore that 360 is getting the slightly gimped version this time.
Also get off your high hourse, ( want to play ut3 with a mouse, get a pc ) why? think I will get the ps3 version thanks. Some people bitch for keyboard and mouse support, and then some bitch when it happens, especially on the console they don't own.

you sly troll. ;)

If the 360 does not support m/kb, I will get the PS3 version :) this is a pretty wise choice on Epic's part. Hopefully it will have text chat ingame too, like PC shooters normally do. The PS3 version is going to be far superior anyway, what with being able to be on an open system where mods and mutators can be used.

I think part of the reasoning why PS3 users get to use the m/kb combo is because they can square off against PC users. This is different to the 360 version where it has to be played over a closed system (the Live service). In this closed system everyone is on 360s using controllers. The introduction of m/kb combo would be more detrimental to Live than it would be to PSN.

As I said in the other thread, it's a good idea for the PS3 version that it allows it but I hope they don't do it (allow Mouse and Keyboard) for the Xbox360.

Why oh why does this KB/M debate always happen. Fine if Sony want to allow that thats their prerogative. MS are making the right decision by only supporting the control pad. The only reason Sony allow is is becasue they claim the PS2/3 are computers to reduce the tax that has to be paid on the console. If they claimed it was a computer and did not support the KB/M then it would be obvious to all (not that it isnt) that they are spouting **** about it being a computer and not a games console.

I recently started playing Unreal and UT on the PC and TBH I really Really missed by joypad. Uncomfortable sitting position, clumsy control system fingers hitting all the wrong buttons. Not enough buttons on my right hand too many buttons on my left hand. Joypad for the win.

Your lack of skill with a mb/k combo is your own problem Krono, not Epic or Sony's =p To the majority of FPS fans, particularly those who loved Unreal Tournament in the past but now have PS3s, this is a welcome addition.

It's good the PS3 gets keyboard and mouse, it has a far inferior controller and if the PS3 is really going to be able to play against PC users then it's a necessity.

If the 360 at least supported keyboard\mouse for shooters in sp (or made it impossible for kb\m users to join in joypad mp games) it would probably be my main gaming system. For shooters though i prefer the pc a ton more, playing an fps with a joypad just feels annoyingly akward. :(

Dont see the point tbh...

And it will be gimped one way or the other... Its just simply not possible to balance that kind of inherent imbalance. Not only that, but who buys a console to play with a keyboard and mouse.

Somebody who doesn't want to spend over half a grand on a PC to play on UT3?

edit: hmm I think I just saw the irony of my post :p
