UT3 PS3 keyboard/mouse confirmed

Really ? I hardly believe you can get such a system for a mere 250, unless you're leaving out stuff like the monitor, m/kb, etc.

Yeah it was leaving out the monitor at least, it was posted in General Hardware, pretty nifty, add in a 22" monitor and you're at about the cost of a PS3 I guess.

Surely the devs are enabling "sticky" aims for joypads - which would balance the mouse support.

By the way - how can someone say it's a good idea for PS3 but not for Xbox? That's just silly.

They're creating filters for games with each controller type so you can choose who you want to play against.

People don't want it for the 360 because it isn't needed as the controller is actually usable.

I think this is a lame decision. It totally takes away from the beauty of console gaming. One of the main attractions to console gaming for me is that everyone has EXACTLY the same hardware, same controllers, same everything. There is no hacking either, so the outcome solely relies upon your skill.

Having keyboard and mouse support is going to make the games slightly one sided to say the least.

Read the link...

we are doing it in a way that will be balanced without feeling "gimped" for either side. We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not.

Why oh why does this KB/M debate always happen. Fine if Sony want to allow that thats their prerogative. MS are making the right decision by only supporting the control pad. The only reason Sony allow is is becasue they claim the PS2/3 are computers to reduce the tax that has to be paid on the console. If they claimed it was a computer and did not support the KB/M then it would be obvious to all (not that it isnt) that they are spouting **** about it being a computer and not a games console.

I recently started playing Unreal and UT on the PC and TBH I really Really missed by joypad. Uncomfortable sitting position, clumsy control system fingers hitting all the wrong buttons. Not enough buttons on my right hand too many buttons on my left hand. Joypad for the win.

As i was scrolling down the page I was thinking any sec now I will come to Krono's post on this :D Sure enough regular as clockwork, shame you cant have more lines of text in the sig cos you could make it yours. Only thing missing though mate is you normal challenge about taking on all comers with your trusty pad ;)

Personally I like the parity just using the pad gives, I like the option of putting my feet up on the desk laying back and playing.

Because 360 owners aren't going up against m'kb using PC gamers. PS3 users are, and they need the option there for them.

Theyre not, each platform is seperate online, no pc vs 360, or 360 vs ps3 or ps3 vs pc.

That's what I thought, no PS3 vs PC, or 360 Vs PC.. I thought that's been stated..?

I actually think M&K support is a good idea, they are doing it responsibly, and providing they code it robustly (to stop the people plugging mice in after the game starts), then I can't see a problem..

It is a shame it won't be on the 360 version, well that's my opinion anyway..

If people want to play M/Kb fine. Just please god don't let them play on the same servers as people who just want to play with the joypad.

Else it's a ridicolous descision imo. There will be a very small hardcore minority that will play this way and completely dominate the casual joypad player. It will become mandatory for anyone that wants to play in any kind of clan to buy a keyboard and mouse.

Sony are confusing. What market are they going for? The scrunched up over the desk crowd or the sitting on sofa console crowd?

It's also typically immature of the ocuk ps3 crowd to say "wah, wah, you 360 suckers are just jealous" to any kind of debate over the subject.

Dont see the point tbh...

And it will be gimped one way or the other... Its just simply not possible to balance that kind of inherent imbalance. Not only that, but who buys a console to play with a keyboard and mouse.

someone who cant afford an all singing all dancing pc games machine ?

I swear Mark Rein did say about there being no cross platform play.

i thought the same

it was a good idea on pro evo6 imo

Just out of curiosity why this any different to using an arcade stick for a beat em up. Available on both 360 and ps3 and offer distinct advantages over the standard joypads. Also there is no way online to know what is being used (in current games).

These give you an advantage over joypad players and you never hear anyone moan about those?

I have no direct experience of using steering wheels online but I imagine there is an advantage in some games (Although I know tests were done on Forza 2 and there was not much in it).

Yeah, getting a little tired and bored of this argument I just wish the dons would find my best rant on the subject and make it a sticky.

Your lack of skill with a mb/k combo is your own problem Krono, not Epic or Sony's =p To the majority of FPS fans, particularly those who loved Unreal Tournament in the past but now have PS3s, this is a welcome addition.

For someone who hasn't used KB/M in nearly a decade I think I'm not too shabby. But I way prefer the Joypad...
I used to be a very very good PC FPS gamer, I know it doesn't sound much but I was the college Quake champion and nigh on undefeated during my 3 years at college (quite a long time ago now). I was also very good at UT when it came out and played a fair bit online. Had Broadband been cheaper at the time I might have stuck with it a bit more but on 56k you had to be exceptionally lucky not to lag out. But with/without lag I was constantly winning free for all games. (something I am still not doing in Halo)

Around that time I played Doom on the PS1 and thought to myself that in time the Joypad could make an equal or better controller than KB/M due to button placement obviously at that time this was not the case.

These days I am way more comfortable with a joypad. and prefer the experience to a KB/M I am a better shot with the joypad, and have way better movement.

But I digress from my real answer to the above quote.

PS I loved unreal tournament however these days I would much prefer to play it with a joypad.
