Bent CPU Pins?

Hi guys, so I replaced my MSI P55 GD80 board with a H55 GD65 so that I could have the video output, and sold my old GD80 board on eBay. I know a lot of you hate eBay, and I am not a big fan either, but I didn't know where else to sell and I cant get into members Market yet.

So anyway, the guy got it the other day and has now sent me a message, in fairly bad English, saying the CPU pins are "bend so bad the motherbourd is usless". Now I have a pic I took of the socket when I was selling and I cant find any bent pins anywhere. This guy might be trying to pull a fast one?

What do you guys think, can you find any bent pins?

Wait if he is saying cpu has bent pins, how can that be lol:confused:? Intel cpus don't have pins and only the mobo socket does which in this case I can't seem to find any bent pins.

I think he probably made the installation error by forcing the cpu hard onto the socket resulting in bent pins if he claiming that. I would suggest you ask him to send a pic of the mobo socket and then you can compare both pics.

If there are bent pins in his photo then know that he didn't install the cpu safely and now wants the refund.

Yeah, this is the message he sent
"hello i received the motherbourd in the post the otherday and ive just had a chance to have a look at it and im not verry happy as all the cpu pins are bend so bad the motherbourd is usless i find this highly desressing. i havent temperd with it in any way i simply took off the cpu protector and inspected and i doubt the damage was done in transit in witch case idd like to send the item back to you and receive a full refund"

He got the board yesterday, according to Royal Mail, and he just sent this message this morning. Possible it was his fault, if you guys think they look fine? The board was in absolutely perfect condition when I sent it I know for sure.

Yeah I might ask him to send me a pic of the so called bent pins.

a little tip for the future, take a number of pictures from acute angles, it's much clearer and more conclusive as you can see lines of perfectly arranged pins from a more side on view.

Also, I don't want to sound too negative but according to the image details this picture was taken on 2011-01-29 14:44:14 which would hardly make it a recent photo taken just prior to dispatch. I don't think that eBay would accept this.

Looks perfect to me. Could be that he had a damaged board already and will send that to you and keep yours. Did you mark the board in any way to be able to identify it as your board? Note the serial numbers before you sent it?

He's buggered it. If it was well packaged and even had the CPU protector on like he says, definitely not Transit fault and he's done a crap Job of inserting the CPU.

I agree with the above, get him to send you a picture of the socket before anything else, whack the picture on here and we'll compare and conclude this 'problem'.

Scammer Scammer Scammer

Beware of TW*TS on ebay who try this trick all the time
They have a ****** board and are trying to send it to you as the main board you sent out

Did you note the serial number down >>?

OR he has put the cpu in wrong and expects you to front the bill for it

Just say sos bud it was perfect etc and to bugger off.... Dont loose sleep over it IT/HE is not worth it but watch out he dont put a stop to it in paypal as he could if he opens a dispute ....(hate ebay me as it is full of scammers)

True the pic was taken a while ago but that was when i initially took the pics to put on eBay and it took a month or two to sell. It was sitting in its box, inside another box ready for shipping the whole time I was waiting.

Yeah I will take more pics of stuff in the future, I have one of the whole board, and one close up, and a few of the accessories and packaging.

I am not sure if I have the serial number or not, I was going to note it down but was in a hurry when I sent it and forgot :S I do have a bunch of numbers from stickers all over the top of the board though. Not sure if one is the serial.

I am quite confident that if there is a problem it was his fault. I could be wrong but I don't think he is just swapping out for his broken one, as he asked a bunch of questions about features and accessories before he bought.

What would happen if he still demands a refund and I refuse. If he elevates this to a case am I likely to lose out? Are they more likely to side with him, even though I have pics?

this is why i dont deal with ebay anymore, the buyer sounds too stupid for him to be pulling a scam as mentioned, its more probable hes damaged the socket himself and is now trying to blame you.

I hate eBay too, but there is not really anywhere else I can sell.

Date sold was Thursday April 14th, Dispatched the same day via Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery. Delivered: "Your item with reference AH*********GB was delivered from our EPSOM Delivery Office on 15/04/11."

So looks like he got it next day, which was Friday, and he only now says it is broken?

He replied saying he cant take a picture:
"its hard for me to take a picture of somthing so small. then how did the pins get bent ? as all i did was open box to inspect the motherbourd and the first thing i did was check the cpu pins i took the brown protective plate off (pulled upwards) and could see strait away they were all bent downwards as if somthings been forced down ?? and the damage hasent came from shipping or by me its inpossible. i even thought na this cant be right maybe its me but after consideration i come to the conclusion that it is 100 percent inposible i did it !!! the only way it could have got damaged is by you when you putt the plastic protective plate on. or you bought a damaged motherbourd and are trying to sell it on to other people to make some money back. or you just broke the moptherbourd your self and are trying to make money iligaly i.e selling a broken motherbourd label'd working idd just like to send you the motherbourd back and get a refund please so i can by anouther 1"

I'm not going to refund him as it was fine when I sent it. I am going to assume he will escalate this to a case. Can anyone tell me what is likely to happen?

You will get scammed and there'e nothing you can do.
Ebay only protect buyers.
This happened to me last year when I sold an EVGA 760 classified, the buyer shorted the board and escalated the case. Within 2 weeks and before I received the board back, ebay took the money from my paypal account and refunded the dirty, thieving B*****D!!!!.
If I were you I would start playing dirty and do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't happen to you and once it's all over, CLOSE YOUR EBAY ACCOUNT.

I'm seeing an increasing amount of minor niggling issues with some of the stuff i've sold on ebay recently. Maybe the current financial climate where people are struggling for money is bringing all the scammers out.

The buyer will have to escalate it as a claim to ebay and you will get your chance to email them the photo of the cpu socket. How can you prove that the photo is of the board you sold? and when the photo was taken?

If he puts in a dispute paypal will stop the payment

Selling computer parts is VERY risky on eGay as the buyers are IDIOTS (not all but most of them) and break them and then say it was like this when they got them

Bent CPU socket pins = warranty void.

Physical damage. Asus do offer a repair service however I am not sure what stance MSI take on socket repairs. Tell him to contact them. If he doesn't reply then he is probably just bluffing.

Oh and ask for more pics!

After reading what the buyer said, it sounds to me that he doesn't understand that with all modern intel motherboard the pins are not straight (ie pointing perpendicular to the board), but at an angle to interface with the contacts on the CPU. I say this because he mentions that all the pins are bent, which really would require some well thought-out deliberate abuse to bend them in a way that would make the board unusable. Either that, or he is coming up with excuses to scam you (as mentioned above).

Perhaps the OP could mention this to buyer and give him some pictures from reviews to show how modern intel LGA boards look when new.#

Also, continue to demand a photo if he pursues this. You were able to photograph it without any issues, I don't see why he can't
