Are six stickies a little bit too much?

Perhaps the Names List, The Worth Purchasing, The Game Servers, The Steam FAQ and the Daily Deals could all be combined into one "Who, What, Where" thread with links contained therein to their respective threads.

The "Emulators" and "4-Pack" should definitely be combined into one Rules thread as we're all now aware of each.

So, for example:

Who said:
The All in One OcUK Gamer Names Site - It's like dating but with games!

The Worth Purchasing/Getting Thread - Not sure about a game, see what others think of it first.

OCUK GAME SERVERS - Lag getting you down, check out the servers available for our gaming pleasure.

An all encompassing Steam FAQ thread - Got a question about Steam, Order of the Flame has the answer.

PC Gaming - Daily Deals Thread - Good games, good prices, updates daily.

Are You A Gamer? - Use Mumble? - Now people on the internet come with voices, talk to them here.

Sounds like a plan. The current amount of stickies is getting to be a bit too much. I'm not sure if the OcUK Game Servers thread is really needed though...or the Worth Purchasing/Getting. Just my personal preference though :)

I also noticed in the OcUK Gamer Names Site thread you're looking for hosting. I'd be happy to put you up on the LinkTart dedi if you like (trust/steam message me if you are interested).

It also means that I'm more likely to not pay attention to stickies. If something important were posted it's much more likely that I'll miss it as 6 + 1 stickies looks 'less different' than 2 + 1 ;)

Personally I don't think the Worth Purchasing/Getting thread is needed. We still get new threads every week asking similar questions for new games to try, perhaps refined a little in terms of genre, age, graphics, SP/MP focus etc, so it clearly isn't working.

Also the general principle just seems a bit subjective to me (as are most forum topics, but still) and I don't see the benefit vs sites like Metacritic, Gamerankings etc. The premise is:

Everytime you play a new game that you think is worth a purchase
post it here

But what that means is that potentially we just get a massive list of games, each of which may be liked by only two people in the whole world. A game that 99% of people think suck but two people like gets put on the list, which means that on the law of averages a randomer entering the thread won't like it either.

Arguably it's the sort of thread that, if used properly, would get unmanageble in the long term, because it just ends up being a massive long list of games to wade through with no distinction between any of the games other than genre. It doesn't even list the number of votes each game has achieved, which might be useful to glean some sort of hierarchy (unlike say Chris [BEANS] top 100 games thread a few years back, that was done quite well IMO).

I'm inclined to agree with you HangTime on the Worth Purchasing/Getting thread but some people seem to find it useful, obviously enough of them to get it stickied in the first place, so it should probably stay (or be included in any changes that may or may not happen to the stickies).

oh and just on the deals thread - I think quite a few voiced that it was better not being stickied and that certainly seems to hold true

The constant bobbing up and down of threads certainly make them more noticeable and the stickies can tend to be ignored or new posts in them can be missed.
