Stickies

Why is the "***The Worth Purchasing Getting Thread***" still there? That is one of the least worthwhile stickies that was there. It is has just ended up listing MOST PC games - basically since "worth purchasing" is a matter of opinion.

+1. Better off adding the new steam faq thread as a sticky.

The problem with that is, if the OP with the all information gets updated, the thread doesn't move up to the top. You rely on people bumping the thread for it to reach the first page.

Yeah that's why I said assuming it's more than just an edit - I'd expect a post with the new deal and the OP to update. If the last posting date doesn't change then I'm probably not going to keep going back in to check the thread to see if anything's been added - at least with a system whereby a new post is added, have some kind of indication that things are changing in the thread.

[as a side issue - might be nice if the forum software could support something that tells you when the OP was last updated without having to drilldown into the post, at least for stickies]

True enough, but plenty of other threads which are really useful, but don't necessarily get updated often.

But those other really useful threads probably aren't daily threads like the one I'm talking about has been labelled. I don't have any issue with a really useful thread that isn't updated very often being a sticky (I had one myself a while back) but they aren't so timebound as a "daily deal".

HangTime, you are taking about the daily deal thread right? I agree that currently it doesn't need to be stickied, but under the previous system it would have been. Of course it is going to always be at the top as members will frequently post in there.

There are similar well known threads that will never fall far down the list like the screenshot thread.

The fact is there were stickied threads that have now fallen into oblivion, that were very useful threads e.g. the Steam FAQ thread.

Just a shame the mods made this move this without a reasonable discussion with the members who frequent this section.

Didn't know I had to ask permission;):p

I have put a couple of threads back to the top until 5UB pulls his finger out and does a new thread. :)

Huh, what is the plan then guys? What have people agreed with. :p

I will pull my finger out when I know what is agreed and what people want. :)

I have no genius idea since I was reasonably happy with the status quo (although I admit a number of the stickied threads needed a review) - hopefully the members who suggested this had some kind of idea?

Perhaps it would be better if we just had one stickied thread that links these "important/interesting" threads.

I guess this will only happen if someone is happy to do it though :p

Should probably leave this for a good few days to get feedback. Not to go sticky crazy, but maybe this should get stickied until a decision has been made :p

I'm staying out of it, already got in trouble.:(

Aw, now I feel bad :(

Probably different to other people but imo, keep the ones that won't pop to the top of their own accord (rules/faqs) stickied, let the ones that should keep returning if people are interested fend for themselves (daily deals/worth purchasing. :)

Maybe amalgamate the ones that have things in common, e.g emulator rules/four pack rules and game servers/mumble server.

Perhaps we could do with a poll?

  • Less Stickies
  • Combine Stickies
  • MOAR STICKIES!
  • Leave them alone, they're fine as is

My idea was to have all the current stickies plus a whichever threads should be stickies such as your mumble thread 5UB listed in an "Important Threads" thread like so:

Who said:
The All in One OcUK Gamer Names Site - It's like dating but with games!

The Worth Purchasing/Getting Thread - Not sure about a game, see what others think of it first.

OCUK GAME SERVERS - Lag getting you down, check out the servers available for our gaming pleasure.

An all encompassing Steam FAQ thread - Got a question about Steam, Order of the Flame has the answer.

PC Gaming - Daily Deals Thread - Good games, good prices, updates daily.

Are You A Gamer? - Use Mumble? - Now people on the internet come with voices, talk to them here.

Which would contain a link to the respective threads. (I was going to do one but then you offered and I didn't want to be stepping on your toes :p Plus, it would be better if a mod did it as they can then lock it while still being able to edit the post. Plust such a thread would not require discussion anyway).

Yep, I basically agree with orderoftheflame :).

Merge 4-Pack and Emulators thread and sticky as rules.
Merge Servers/Mumble/Member list and sticky.
And definatly unsticky the worth purchasing thread.
Daily deals doesn't need stickied.
