A few weeks ago DigiTimes published a list of upcoming widescreen TFT monitors due over the next few months (some of which have already been released). Unfortunately this article is no longer available to the non-paying public and so I have decided to compile my own list of specifications and reproduce it here in more detail with a few corrections and some additions. I hope that this will help some of you, especially those of you, who like me, have been waiting a long time for vendors and panel manufacturers to take the widescreen market seriously. Please note that this is NOT intended as a guide to widescreen TFT’s (we have Badass for that).

NOTE: RRP is based on the currency conversion between the Taiwanese Dollar (NT$) and Pound Sterling (£) at a rate of 1 NT$ = £0.0170570744. For this reason I have included what I believe to be the expected UK pricing (inc VAT) for those monitors which have not yet been released. In such cases the price is preceded by a ~ (tilde) and followed by the keyword “EST” to denote an estimated value. These prices are only intended as a guide and should not be taken at face value.

"Dell 24” 2405WFP
Availability: February/March 2006???
No Other Information Available"

This one sounds like a good one for me, upgrade from my 2005fpw, i dont understand why they dont call it 2407wfp? Wow so they re-arranged some of the letters! Wonder if any of the features will change?

the Acer 20” AL2032W....what technology does it use? Is it SIPS?

Thanks.

It uses a 20" WS P-MVA panel from AU Optronics as far as i know, the same one already used in the Belinea 102035W, and soon to be other models :)

excellent little heads up to all the new models PFK, thanks

Hi NeilMick

There are two variants of the Acer AL2032W, one of which is quoted as having a 16ms response time while the other is 8ms, so i suspect the panels are different. The 8ms version uses an 8ms P-MVA panel from AU Optronics but i dont know what the other one uses.

No competitor talk please

i dont know anybody who'd want to buy a 20" right now. higher res than a 19" certainly, but the jump in price for that extra inch of screen is just crazy. 2 19" acer's for the price of a 20" with change to spare. Something not quite right about that lol

After a little searching on Anandtech i discovered a list of the panels used in 20 to 21 inch widescreen monitors. I dont know if its entirely accurate though so dont take my word for it. I dont have any info on the 19 inch models but i suspect they're TN??

Here's the list (courtesy of someone named w00t):

LG.Philips LM201W01:

Acer AL2032wm (widescreen) has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201W01) panel.

Apple M9177 (Widescreen) has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201W01) panel.

Dell 2005FPW (Widescreen) has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201W01) panel.

LG L203WX (widescreen) has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201W01) panel.

Philips 200W6B (Widescreen) has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201W01) panel.

Philips 200W6CS (widescreen) has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201W01) panel.

Philips 200W6S (Widescreen) has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201W01) panel.

Samsung LTM210M2:

Eizo S2110W (Widescreen) has a 21 inch 8 ms (g2g) S-PVA (Samsung LTM210M2) panel.

Eizo S2110W-K (Widescreen) has a 21 inch 8 ms (g2g) S-PVA (Samsung LTM210M2) panel.

HP F2105 (Widescreen) has a 21 inch 12 ms (g2g) S-PVA (Samsung LTM210M2) panel.

HP L2105 (Widescreen) has a 21 inch 16 ms S-PVA (Samsung LTM210M2) panel.
Gateway FPD2185W 21" Widescreen High-Definition LCD Flat-Panel Display

AUO M201EW01 V0:

Acer AL2032W (widescreen) has a 20 inch 8 ms P-MVA (AUO M201EW01 V0) panel.

Acer F-20 (Ferrari) (widescreen) has a 20 inch 8 ms (g2g) P-MVA (AUO M201EW01 V0) panel.

Xerox XM9-20W has a 20 inch 8 ms (g2g) P-MVA (AUO M201EW01 V0) panel.

Unknown Panel Model:

ViewSonic VX2022 (widescreen) has a 20 inch 3 ms (g2g) P-MVA panel.

I am specifically looking for a monitor to use for both desktop applications and movie/television viewing. So resolution doesnt really worry me.

The large majority of 19" Widescreen monitors out at the minute use the TN film panel, which isnt the best for movie viewing, thats why im looking at the 20" models that use P-MVA panel.

Do the different models of the Acer use different codes for their names?

Thanks. :)

PS. Sorry for the competitor part of my post, totally forgot about the rule.

as far as panels used goes:

Acer 19” AL1916W - 8ms Samsung TN Film panel (LTM190M2)

Acer 20” AL2032W - 8ms P-MVA from AUO

Acer 20” F20 (Ferrari Edition) - 8ms P-MVA from AUO

Acer 24” AL2416W - the new PVA panel from Samsung (LTM240M1)

Belinea 20” 102035W - 8ms P-MVA from AUO

BenQ 17” FP71W - i think it's a 25ms PVA panel from Samsung, but not really many WS 17" models about!

BenQ 20” FP202W - Sadly an 8ms TN Film panel from Chungwa Picture Tube (CPT)

BenQ 23” FP231W - 16ms S-IPS panel from LG.Philips (LM230W02)

Fujitsu-Siemens 19” Scaleoview W19-1 - 8ms Samsung TN Film panel (LTM190M2)

HP 21” F2105 - 12ms S-PVA panel from Samsung (LTM210M2)

Viewsonic 19” VA1912W - 8ms Samsung TN Film panel (LTM190M2)

Viewsonic 20” VA2012W - 8ms TN Film panel from CPT

Viewsonic 20” VX2022W - 3ms G2G P-MVA panel from AUO as far as i know

Viewsonic 23” VP2330W - 8ms P-MVA panel from AUO as far as i know

Dell 30” 3007WFP - 30" 14ms (maybe 8ms) PVA panel from Samsung

think that's it.... :)

EDIT: although while i was typing that up there's been a list posted above covering some of them anyway :D

what do people think of the fujitsu monitor as i think it looks nice just cant find anywhere to buy (i know you cant post links) but is it worth searching for or is there a better option??

Likewise Deonilin, I prefer the Fujitsu Scaleoview W19-1 over the Viewsonic VA912W and the Acer AL1916W but they all use the same panel so at the end of the day it all comes down to one of two things: aesthetics and price. The fujitsu design reminds me of the Viewsonic VP range, albeit without all the fancy ergonomics.

Obviously i can't post links for where to find the fujitsu but all i can say is that it is available in the UK now if you look hard enough. Lets hope OcUK stock it :)

What are the speculated differences between the Dell 24” 2405WFP and the existing 2405FPW? All i could find so far was that it may support HDCP. Anything else - is it worth waiting for over the 2405FPW?

Cheers

don't forget that build quality can vary greatly depending on manufacturer and there are some more subtle differences like electronic controls implemented for the panels. For example, Viewsonic use their ClearMotiv electronics to help control overdrive, boost responsiveness, etc. Slight differences, but things to consider nonetheless

Viewsonic 20” VX2022W

That WILL be mine... looks chuffing amazing. It's 3ms G2G... do you think that will make it perform significantly better than the Belinea Baddass? :)
