After discussion between the moderators we have agreed that these threads appear to be detrimental to the forum

the main reasons being that they stifled discussion, excluded others and attracted trolls

This is certainly not an irreversible decision but we think that it is for the good of the forum and will continue to monitor the situation :)

*Cough*DanH84*Cough*

Just kidding! C'mon lad it's just a bit of banter, I've not seen anything that's too over the top, certainly nothing to warrent closing all the threads.

Thats just one of the reasons given. I assume thats the only one you have a problem with?

No-one is being punished here.

Nope I don't agree/understand any of the reasons. I'm not really sure what is meant by "stifled discussion" and I can't see how others could be feeling excluded as theres loads of football threads alongside the liverpool/man u/arsenal ones (which aren't very active anyway)

actually won't things get a bit untidy in here if there aren't umbrella threads for clubs, particularly the ones with the largest support base. The liverpool thread has for instance contained major discussions; such as rotation/injuries/problems with owners along with more minor; discussing favourite variations of teams, individual performances, idle transfer speculation, rumours regarding the club etc etc. those more minor issues will probably not be mentioned much anymore which is a bit of a shame i feel.

I've got no problem with the NUFC thread, I like having all the non-match day discussion in one place. I've not noticed any trolling within it and as for excluding others, it's a thread about Newcastle United, the only thing excluding other people is that they don't support NUFC, what do you expect? To be honest there is a fair bit of input from other supporters in that thread anyway. Shouldn't the other forum members have been consulted before all of the threads got locked? I realise that it is now being discussed in the open and it's not an irreversible decision as you say, but I think they should have remained open until the community as a whole agreed.

Actually I personally think this is wrong - yes there are occasional over excessive enthusiasm for and against but this happens in other sections also (the wii has to fail for example)

It also tidies up the forum, only having one post for each club rather than loads of threads which can be lost or not searched for so another one is started on the same subject, I contribute to other team threads and always try and be as fair as possible only hoping to incite a decent conversations

football is a passionate affair and it would be kind of sad not to have some banter .

Lets hope everyone can conduct themselves civilly and they don't get closed down .

Does it create loads of work for the mods? i very rarely see anything particularly bad that goes beyond just winding up opposition fans that is al part of the tribalism of football, i don't often see vitriol or hatred and when someone does step out of line, for instance a disabled gag made at one of the arsenal guys the community as a whole pretty much comes together in it's condemnation. likewise in the club threads i've never seen references to tragic events in a club history ie hillsborough, munich. to be honest i rarely see even swearies needing to be edited out. opposition fans regularly frequent other teams threads and while there can be bickering it's no more than you might get if you went to the pub with a rival fan, and i think everyone here is grown up enough to takw any banter with a pinch of salt and while i freely admit to being one of the most vocal, i've never received any kind of mod censure and to be honest would happily go for a beer even with those i argue most viciously with.

So the same topics that come up in the 'individual' threads and cause banter won't appear now as separate threads and cause exactly the same banter? Now the banter will just be spread across the forum and be harder to moderate. Plus, depending on how these new threads are titled, it's more likely that supporters of other teams are going to enter a thread where the subject matter is orientated around a single team and surprisingly; generate banter.

So you've closed all the 'individual' threads to generate more banter? That didn't come across in the OP.

Stifled discussion + excluded others

Banter being the discussion being stifled and the excluded others being the cause of the banter?

Attracted trolls

The very trolls that are causing the banter?

Forgive me but it seems this change is going to cause the very problems you are trying to solve.

individual threads was a good idea because for example if i want to know what the latest update about Liverpool i would just look at the Liverpool thread and check on there but now i bet you that all Liverpool threads will be all over the place.

Poor decision imo.

I can't see how they stifled discussion, if anything they created it. Again excluding others, if they want to talk about there own club then make a thread, failing that there's always the weekend football threads where anyone can talk about their club.

Surely if they attracted trolls (I can only think of one) then stricter moderation is in order. Give the troll(s)a warning?

banter and trolling are very different things

banter was being stifled due to the inclusive nature of the threads, where as anyone intent on trolling had a single point and a captive audienc

the quality of this forum has deteriorated since these threads started
