OK before I spend like £70 on this stuff can anyone suggest anything else I may need or any other replacement stuff?

with the free gift of 10 Feather Double Edged Razor Blades

Seems all good to me. Are you dead set on that brush? If not they have recently had a delivery of the cheaper badger brushes which seem to have good reviews;

Is the badger brush which comes with this package any good? Not the one which costs more, just the standard brush?

Cheers.

I bought that set around Christmas time, it is absolutely brilliant. I'm very chuffed with the brush, the 34c is fantastic & the soap is one of my favourites, even after trying 5-6 others. I'm half considering getting a DE89L next but not because I'm unhappy with the 34c.

Derby blades are good to start with, I've moved on to ASTRA blades & just bought 100 Supermax super platinum for about £10, those should last me ages.

Just had my first shave with the feather blades.

The closest shave i've ever had. They are that good.

Then i tried to be a hero and shave against the grain for a closer shave like i normally do. Huuuge mistake. The alum block had some work to do under my chin.

Next time, keep it simple.

I don't know what I did wrong but my shave was horrendous! I did about 6 passes and will still have to go again later.

I guess my angle was wrong?

Just placed my order for the following:

Merkur 33c
Buccaneer Pure Badger Shaving Brush
Taylor of Old Bond St Shaving Cream
10 Feather Razors

Hopefully I will see an improvement over disposables...

I realised why my shave was so poor; i'd put the 'head' of the razor on the wrong way round. The grooves were facing down not up. About to try it the 'correct' way. :D

How can you put the head on incorrectly? It fits in the handle one way... Then you can use both edges of the razor blade, alternating with each stroke. I'm pretty sure the blades can be used both sides out of the packet too (i.e. it doesn't need to be font face up or down in the razor).

Right.

Well, as I've got the job coming up in summer I've decided I need to start shaving properly and be clean shaven rather than my current 'trimmed' stubble that comes about due to my awful electric razor. Which also leaves my skin itching for ages.

From what I can see, I need:
Razor
Brush
Blades
Soap

What are people's recommendations?
Merkur seem to be the people to go for for razors... but short of that I know little. I'm also not too sure on whether to get the 34 or 33....

I guess you could classify me as 'new' to shaving xD

So therefore I'm guessing I should try an assorted blade pack or something?

Anyone link to the best price/ratio stuff out there at the moment?

This is what I'd go for:

Muhle R89 (http://connaughtshaving.com/mur89.html)
Nice razor, not too aggressive, not too mild. Looks great and the build quality is better than Merkur in my opinion.

Vulfix 660 brush (http://www.shaving-shack.com/progress-vulfix-660_pure-badger-shaving-brush.html)
Great little brush, what I started with and even though I have others now I still use it

Blade sample pack (http://connaughtshaving.com/popular.html)
Some great blades in this pack. I like the Astra SP and Gillette 7 o'clock. This is probably the biggest variable and it's important to find a blade that suits you. Sample packs are a great way of doing this.

Soap, there's loads to choose from. Proraso is great, and often highly recommended (http://connaughtshaving.com/prorasosoap.html)

I'd get an aftershave balm too, I use Nivea Replenishing balm, you can get this everywhere.

Watch some tutorial videos too.

This kind of set-up has improved my shave immensely. Hope this helps.
