I have found with my Murkur 38c that like you my skin dries very quickly so I try make sure I really soak with hot water the area I'm going to shave well and apply Shaving gel or whatever you use nice and thinly. If you have long stubble a fresh blade is ideal otherwise a blade normally last me around 3 shaves. But I use my Murkur for shaving my head which is a larger area than ur face. I very rarely cut myself and its normally my fault when I do.

It's more than likely your soap/foam than the razor itself. This is coming from someone with dry skin naturally.

Try holding the neck of the razor between the tips of your fingers, almost as if your holding something delicate, I tend to find if I have to much of a good grip I get carried away & destroy my face.

I saw a thing advertised which supposedly sharpened the blades. However I think it's snake oil. I don't understand how it could sharpen blades when they're behind wire...

Other than that try to make sure you shake off excess water after use, and don't keep spare blades where steam will get to them. I've been told that.. I don't know if there's anything to it.

Is there anyway to keep razor blades sharp ?
Don't mean to be sarcastic or anything like that but the best way to keep razor blades sharp is to not use them for more than 4-5 shaves perhaps? For the cost of a pack of your chosen razor blades, compared to Gilette's rather dear Mach 3/Fusion blades, it's quite possible to bin a DE razor blade quite often to keep a sharp blade on your face. :)

The life of blades can be extended by rubbing them in the opposite direction of the blade edge over leather/your skin(hand/arm etc..)/substitute whatever.

edit: youtube vid for cartridges

you can do something similar with DE blades, but requires a lot more care obviously. no doubt already in this thread somewhere :p

Best place to buy feather blades? the rainforest place has 30 for £12.50 inc Delivery while the traditional shaving company has 30 for £12.95 inc Deliery. Any better places to order from?
I'm currently runnig on some Astra Platinum andthey are not as good as the Derby's i was using before.

any recommendations for soap/cream? I have been using Taylor of bond st cream for years, and really like it, but I am up for trying something new.

I tried a canned shaving foam I got in Christmas gift. The difference was shocking, I think my beard will be coming back out if my tub of Taylor's runs out!

Not tried them, but Bluebeards Revenge cream seems pretty popular (although more expensive) also Proraso seems good.

I've ditched the cream and brush and gone for Billy Jealousy Hydroplane Shave Cream. Works great, much smoother shave and it's less clean-up too.

It's a silicone based gel, not much frothing but makes the blade glide easily.

Mitchells Wool Fat is amazing.

I've been using Palmolive shaving foam, mainly because the hand made soap I bought from some woman on eBay wasn't as good as the first lot I got from her, and because I CBA. It is pretty awful though.

I think I need to invest in something better. Can anyone recommend a really good cheap soap (thinking about 5 notes here).

Oh, and since I bought a load more Feather blades I'm becoming anaemic, so I'm thinking of trying some alum. Does it actually work?

The Cyril R Salter cream is really nice. I have the wild rose and it smells lovely. Lathers up great for a really slick shave.

I can also recommend Mitchells Wool Fat. I only got a soap because they are easier to take away but if anything can move me off creams it's this. It lathers really nice straight onto your face, so no need for a bowl. And no risk of splitting the packaging and having it poor on the contents of you suitcase.

Soap/cream wise I really like TOOBS shaving shop, Bluebeards is great also as it is incredibly easy to get a lather up, I went to that Home Bargains place last week & got some real Shaving Co stuff & I have to say it seems decent enough especially for about £1.30
