Hey guys,

Im trying to figure out which version of Oblivion i should buy when its out in a months time, which version is supposed to look the best??

Im not sure if the 360 would or not...

My spec for my PC is:

3.2Ghz HT P4
2Gb DDR Ram
ATI X850 XT 256Mb (AGP)
Audigy 2

The PC version is cheaper too... decisions, decisions!!

Anyone able to help me out with any information?
Cheers guys :)

im gonna hazard a guess that it will run smoother on your 360 seeing as your x850 probly isnt up to the job...? although ive heard they are great cards so i could be wrong!

If you had one of the latest shiny new gfx cards i'd say pc for sure! but as it looks i reckon xbox ;)

The makers themselves have said that the Xbox360 version will look as good as you'll get on the PC. This of course would probably depend on you having a HDTV or TFT to use the 360 on to get the full effects.

I think this is a mouse and keyboard game, and so would choose it for the PC, the graphics will be better if your system can handle it mainly because you can enable the shadowing on the pc. Any console use will be much better on the PC, assuming you can even use the console on the 360. There will be, in my oppinion greater modding support and customisability on the PC too.

One question though, what resolution do you run games in, if you have something like the dell 2405 then it will kill your pc, I use this monitor and most new games toast my pc with my 6800 ultra.

The latest PC Gamer said they had it running very smooth on a single 7800GTX with a FX60 on (I think) the highest details - so it looks to be not as punishing as everyone thinks.

...Errrr, i know the internet isnt good for conveying sarcasm, but you are building a sarchasm right?

I'd say the pc version:

1) Upgrades, patches, mods

2) Depending on your pc it will be better than the 360. Just think how good it will look in a few years time when the 360 starts to age.

3) Cheaper.

4) I'm sure it will be nicer to play with a mouse & keyboard. I hate using pads for first person games, not good.

It's due out 24/3/06.

Bethesda have already stated that upgrades etc will be available on Xbox Live! This would also include patches if needed, although it should hopefully be polished enough already on the 360.

"Depending" is a very loose word to use here, and it can be used to validate either platforms point. On the 360 you're guaranteed to have it run in a specific way, as it was intended by the developers. The 360 will have the highest quality right from the beginning. If your PC isn't up to it, you'll have to spend however long it is before upgrading playing the game in a lower res, with lower graphical settings, therefore losing out on a lot of the technology the game has to offer if your PC can't handle the highest settings. The Xbox 360 will be ready to take advantage of the highest and latest technologies right from the start. By the time the 360 ages, the next version will most likely be in development or on it's way out to the shops. Obviously my above statement relies heavily on the fact that you'd need a HDTV in order to get the best graphical quality, but even if you hook it up to your PC monitor with a VGA cable, the quality compared to your average PC will be far better. Like I said, "depending" can run both ways :)

3) Cheaper.

Only marginally, but if you look at it in terms of the hardware required, if you end up spending extra cash on more memory, or a new graphics card just to be able to get the best out of the game, you're not saving any money at all. The most you'll end up forking out for your 360 will most likely be £65 for a HDD and £15 for a VGA cable. And then you're guaranteed that the game will look as intended.

4) I'm sure it will be nicer to play with a mouse & keyboard. I hate using pads for first person games, not good.

I agree that keyboard and mouse is great for games, but it's third person and doesn't require as much accuracy as a first person shooter for example. Also, generally in these types of games, your reaction times to the environment around you is significantly less than that in an FPS. So I don't see the fact that it's a pad will make much of a difference at all.

Add to that the fact that you don't need to be sitting at a desk to play and enjoy the game, so you can crack open a beer, grab some snacks, and veg out in front of the TV with your shiny wireless pad and game on. Oh yeah, and playing a game on a console hooked up to your TV is far more sociable if you have other people with you, as they can all veg out too, while they watch you play, rather than having to hunch over your desk / chair :D

It's due out 24/3/06.

Um, considering the 7800GTX and F60 is pretty much the most powerful graphics card/CPU combination available (SLi aside), I'd say that doesn't give a very good indication :p

just whatever you prefer to play on :) i prefer to play games on my pc all bar driving which i think my 360 owns at. im not going to buying this game i dont think, but just go for which ever platform you prefer playing on.

Its going to be a suck it and see i think. Ill wait and see what people think of the pc one - if its not running greatly, ill go for the 360, if the pc one runs sweet, pc will win for the keyboard/mouse combo :)

Indeed, according to the developers, with regards to visuals the 360 will match a good PC. That being said the same developer also stated that if you had a seriously beefy PC with SLI etc. then on PC you would be able to up the resolution to provide even better visuals. So I guess for the ultimate graphical experience choose the PC version providing you have the hardware to cope with it.

Feature-wise the two versions are identicle, so it comes down purely to the resolution/ monitor vs tv vs hdtv argument really.

I have a fairly decent spec PC so am hoping to be able to run it at 1280*1024 with most stuff on max.

As a side note, the developers are on a "press tour" in the US this week, with an embargo (NDA) in effect on all they say Until midnight tonight US time.I wonder if they've been telling people it's gone gold or anything like that?

THE 360 uses better technologys ingame so you will get a slighlty better picture, but i guess its a w8t and c

Errr no it doesn't mate. It uses exactly the same technology and thus will look identical.
