Oblivion. 360 Vs. PC

Well, it is if it's optimised for dual cores, if not it's no advantage what so ever.

Oblivion is said to have *some* dual core optimisation of it, but none of the devs have said it'll make that much of a difference, so they've probably just offloaded sound and physics or something but left the graphics stuff all running through a single thread on one core rather than splitting it up further like they could.

PC version all the way for me, even tho I just bought the kids an Xbox360......I'm a PC gamer and even if I had to ramp down some of the graphics settings I don't care....in-depth rpgs and consoles don't sit well with me. I'm too old skool for that :D

Anyway, graphics aside, the gameplay is more of a concern imo. Hopefully they have improved on the awful combat system etc that Morrowind had...

Yeah, they completely changed the combat system so its based on whether your sword actually hits them or not. You're right, the combat system on Morrowind was terrible

This is from one of the previews....

Graphics look like they're still being optimized. The rig they set me up on was a powerhouse--a Dell 3.4GHz packed with an ATI X1900 512MB card. The video settings were set at a modest 1280x768 and anti-aliasing was turned off. There were some occasional stutters, and I could (albeit on rare occasions) see some stitching lines between textures. Performance seemed pretty similar for this machine as it was for the Xbox 360s running Oblivion on the other side of the room.

Glad I preordered the 360 version :) impressive stuff for a console being compared to a X1900 system.

There's contradicting advice from the previews as one claims the draw distance on the X360 is less than on the PC, and other previews state that it ran on the test PC with no stutering and that also PC load times were better.

In other words, we still don't really know.

Well I don't even see the point of threads like this when the game isn't even out yet all we can do is speculate, but no matter how hard we try we just won't be able to come to any conclucsion. Then again this is why forums were invented.

Wont the 360 version have much longer load times than the pc version? Afaik the access time from a dvd is 10x more than that of a hdd in the review they mentioned the game stopping for a few seconds with a loading area message ever min or so going through the countryside.

Im in the process of building a new pc so think I'll get the pc version, Also want to have a play with the construction kit on the pc.

Well I think I'll get better peformance out of my 360 than my pc. I may go SLI next christmas, but hopefully I'll be nearing the end of it by then :p.

My rig's as follows;

X800XT
3700+ (754)
2gb ram
sata drives
