Football Manager 2008 announced

Match Flow – The largest change to match-day in a Sports Interactive game since the introduction of the 2d match engine. Match flow brings more atmosphere to match-days with match previews, team talks, opposition player instructions, the match itself, half time and post match. These now seamlessly follow on from one another, with no more pausing to make tactical changes, and a mini-radar pitch whilst making those tactical changes to keep you in touch with what’s going on in the match

International Management – The international management gameplay has been completely revamped for Football Manager™ 2008, including, but not limited to, media improvements, international retirements, player interaction, international scouting, improved pool selection, captain selection and a separation of international and club morale for players.

Easier to Use – A much cleaner skin, a brand new advisor system to help players through various areas of the game. A new notes and notebook system, better button positioning for simpler navigation and an updated tutorial and manual. Also, coach reports make taking over a new team easier, and the new calendar system lists all important dates throughout the season. These all help to make Football Manager™ 2008 the easiest Sports Interactive game to use yet.

Confidence – Players can now easily tell what the board and supporters think about their performance in the game through the new confidence section. This gives players feedback not just on their current progress in competitions, but also their financial management and signings.

Transfer Centre – A new way of managing all current transfer and loan bids for a players club, both incoming and outgoing, making it easier to compare bids and reject or accept them.

Match Engine Improvements – A greatly improved match engine, once again utilising the footballing brain of former Republic of Ireland international player Ray Houghton as well as other tools used by real-life managers to make the most accurate simulation of football in a computer game. The ability to change the pitch dimensions at the start of the season to suit players styles of play better has also been added.

Awards re-write – An overhaul of the awards system inside the game which is not only more accurate now, but also includes new awards such as the European golden boot, and a “best eleven”, which shows the all-time (in game) best eleven for all teams and nations.

Finances revamp – To reflect the changes in modern day football, Sports Interactive have updated the finance area of Football Manager™ 2008 to better reflect the ever changing football world, with more information available to the manager too, including, but not limited to, corporate match day income, season ticket news, investment funds, improved sponsorships, collective win bonuses, and the ability to move around funds from the wage budget and transfer budget (and vice versa) at any point to help you in your quest for the ideal squad.

Fan days – The board can now arrange fan days to boost ailing attendances, or for matches that are likely to attract a low crowd, with a long term affect to attendances if all goes well.

Expanded media – More media and feedback than ever before, plus more detail in existing media, and a new competition news section to find out what major things are going on in all league competitions

Regenerated player photo’s – All in game generated players now have pictures using FaceGen technology to give each player more personality, and the ability for the players to be seen to grow up in front of your eyes as the game is going on.

Speedyfastier – Saving and loading is now significantly faster, with network gaming faster and smoother to play, as well as tactical changes and match reports being quicker than ever before.

I can see them now. :) No more dead people. :D

The screenshots look really good. FM08 sounds good on paper but the screenshots bring it alive.

My favourites are the nationality section of http://www.sigames.com/graphics/images/1693.jpg and the expectations http://www.sigames.com/graphics/images/1673.jpg.

Interestingly the tactic screens show the actual kits that team wears with the player numbers on. Nice touch if it mean that instead of a generic icon, each team tactic screen will show the players in their actual club shirts.

Rock on FM08!!

sweeeet, looking forward to this :D been a fan of the series since CM2, loved them all.

/edit *looks at pics* does look a little drab though... not finished yet though i spose

Some of those features look OK, but there's still a few things I've felt have been missing for ages, namely:

Ability to set player instructions based on player, not position
For example say I've got a pacey striker who is good at dribbling like Henry up front. I want him to run with the ball. But then say he is subbed, injured or whatever and I bring on a strong, slower forward like Mark Viduka. I'm not gonna want him running with the ball, maybe holding up the ball instead. It's a right pain in the backside to either have to save 10 billion tactics to cover every possible team selection, in order to ensure players have the right instructions. It would be much easier if you could assign and save player instructions to a specific player (in the same way that you can pick lists of corner takers etc). Obviously the existing way of operating should be available too, for those who tend to pick their team to suit their tactics, rather than the other way round.

Notify you when international callups conflict with your club fixtures
Most of the time you don't have any matches when there are internationals on. However for some players from other continents (South America, Africa) you will sometimes lose players to this. The problem is that by the time you realise, it's usually matchday and too late to withdraw them from the international squad. Currently the only way you can tell is by comparing dates with your club's fixture list - I CBA doing that everytime a national squad is announced.

Reserve squad automation
Would be nice if as soon as a player is moved to the reserve squad, you could associate actions to be done automatically (e.g. automatically change transfer/loan status for players moved to reserves, change training schedule, squad status etc)

International recall when fit
Would like an option to have players automatically restored to national squad if they had to be withdrawn due to injury (replacing the replacement).

Easier to sell players
One annoyance for me is when I offer quality players (not mickeymouse rubbish) for under their value, and get no decent offers. Yet a week later clubs will splash out huge sums on players in the same position who aren't half as good. It'll be like, you offer say Van Persie for £6m and get no offers. Then someone goes and spends £15m on Kevin Doyle.

Fix some of the stupid bugs
How's this for a joke. The other day, Klose scored a nice goal for me. The opposition kicked off, went straight down to my goal and scored - fair enough. However the commentary said that Klose was at fault for the goal because he gave away possession (and probably reduced his match rating)! LOL, I'll have to tell my strikers to avoid scoring goals in future, as it simply gives the other team the ball!

On the plus side however, I like the idea of a Transfer centre. Gets kinda annoying when you have loan offers from 5 different clubs on the same day and have to flick through the messages.

Hopefully the awards revamp will make them a bit more deserving.

If they still haven't fixed the Torquay bug, I really will not be happy. (Reported this for every version since FM2005- Torquay without fail draw Plymouth in the 1st round of the league cup, unless one or the other has been relegated too far to be eligible)

Wasn't sure. :p Miles has said that when SI preview a new skin no-one likes it but they all shut up when they play the demo. ;)
