Football Manager 2008 announced

I wonder if along with the transfer centre they will have made it easier to sell decent players. I hope they fix the stupid negotiating tactics of the A.I. as well.

Fixing transfers and international management are the two biggest targets in my eyes.

Edit: WOW! The confidence screen looks ****ing fantastic. I've been really wanting something like this for ages.

im a fan of the series but i honestly just dont think this is worth shelling out £25 + each time each year. Im tempted to say its almost as bad as.....EA

Agree with the setting instructions for player rather than position.

Teams should also have the option of not releasing players from the club to play for the national team. Often some national teams have stupid friendlies during the premiership season (e.g south american national squads affects this im sure)

Also compensation for clubs if player gets injured on international duty (e.g. michael owen saga)

Being head-hunted more if you win everything.

oh look another fm game, its the same as the last one...

You really didn't read the article did you? If you don't want updated features, don't buy it. Simple.

As for the game, really looking forward to this, some of the new features look pretty cool, but it seems like it might slow up the game a bit, no big deal though.

The screenshots don't look great, not sure I like the brighter feel of the UI, but I expect we can customise this like before :)

SI try and improve the match code each time to speed up the actual speed of the game. I remember trying the FM07 demo. It just felt so much faster and smoother than FM06. Granted it was a small demo program compared to the full FM06 games with all the leagues I was running.

£18 for an update isnt worth it. £10 maybe. Smacks of EA-isms...they learn well from the master i guess.

The stuff i mentioned is just what came off the top of my head...and the experienced and talented developers cant think to put them in? Surprised that the compensation thing isnt in as the Michael Owen compensation case was big news.

Its disturbing but more developers are doing this nowadays. That is, they are merely updating their older games and not bringing anything substantially NEW to the table. But charging the full price for it. e.g. Medieval 2 Silent Hunter 4

Well you don't just get the 'new' game for £25/£18. You also get a new database with updated attributes for the players. That takes some doing, time and patience. Also SI have quite an excellent forum and do listen to their fans/forum members to try to improve the game year in, year out.

Whereas EA, just release a new game each year without listening to their customers in such a direct way as SI do.

:)

For the ammount of game time I get from a 30 quid game the updated versions are well worth it. It's the only game I don't get bored of, and thats saying something. But if you don't like FM, then thats fair enough.

I can't wait for this, hopefully Newcastle will have some money to spend at the start of this one!!

Do you have FM07? If so, the FM Weegie update gives Newcastle £28m to spend. ;)

Oh and what would people prefer to buy? FM08 for £25 OR Championship Manager 2008 for the same amount of money? I tried the demos of the Championship Manager equivalents to FM05/FM06. Blimey, I got a headache trying to set tactics, look at my squad etc. I just gave up and kept on with the FM series. Needless to say I didn't try the demo for the current Championship Manager.

You should look at the FM Weegie. They release it every Friday at 6.30pm ish. They include all the week's transfers and contract updates etc. So Newcastle have £28m to spend, have a new owner and all the new players Big Sam has signed are there. :)

i should add, even though i have some cynicism about it..doesnt stop me playing it: on my 5th or 6th season with my team :)
Its quite addictive..im always on the hunt for the next "big" player.

I bought FM2007 for a tenner not that long ago.

Got sacked as manager of Arsenal after 6 seasons, still manager of Ukraine and offered the Real Zaragoza job - proper irony there for those who remember the mid90s :) Still, at least Tony Adams took my job instead of some joker like Sven.

Don't think I'm going to play it again (the desire wanes once you get the boot) but even so I had over 5 days play time (i.e. well over 120hrs). That beats most singleplayer games hands down.
