What's with all the glowing praise? Is it just me that doesn't see it that much faster than an 8800GT?

Sure, if it's only another 50 quid over a GT then you'd probably be better going with one of these rather than a pre-overclocked GT of the same price but if it's much more than that, surely you'd be better overclocking a GT?

the 8800GTS 512MB card is going to cost about $50 - $100 USD more than the RRP of the 8800GT. The problem is that the 8800GT is in such short supply that the card’s price has been jacked up $50 - $75 USD meaning that the card could almost come in at the same price.

^^ That looks promising but is it just me or is that review dodgy?
I mean how can the GT beat the GTS in some tests? and howcome the 3870 & GT are almost identical in Vista

looks good, though not hugely better than the GT (no surprise), will be interesting to see the price I can't see it being a lot more than a GT £50-60~ish?

also will be good to see if the GT can be unlocked.

a oc'ed GT would be a good comparison point.

Agreed
But does appear to be cooler/quieter (dual slot cooler I assume)
Will not be rushing to change my 8800gt for one anytime soon although if buying a new card the xtra speed+cooler+quieter might push me to buy it rather than gt. As always depends on bottom line - price!

Well stock speed is looking like a gt at 740/1851/2000
so i would imagine an overclocked one we are talking 15000+ 3d mark06.

Whers the OCing?

And why even release a review without Crysis benches these days? Even if they may add it later, why not just do it before putting it up? Lets face it, that game is THE new benchmark for cards...

And i quote.."Lovely stuff!"

Crysis benchies added later 2day!

Yes, I saw that, but I am asking why even release it without that in in the first place?

I mean, pretty much anything can run Source Engine games well these days, and who even caresa about F.E.A.R anymore?

I wouldn't want to base my decision to buy a new card soley on one game benchmark. It's good to see a variety of things and see how it compares to it's rivals. 3DMark06 for instance - always like to look at a benchmark there, as well as a variety of different games and resolutions.
But that's just me :)

i know this is probbly a bit of a silly question but when are we likely to see the 9800 ???. If its march april time or later i wouldnt mind getting a nice 8800 GT or the new G92 8800 GTS for xmas to replace my X1950 PRO.

Then again my X1950 PRO has been great so far hasnt really let me down loads plays all the games i want at nice FPS, just not as smooth as i would like.

I run at 1440 X 900....................hummmmmmm what to do wait for the next big series or buy one of these.

If its sub £200 i'll upgrade and compare, if its not enough of a upgrade i'll send back.

We'll wait and see pricing before deciding,

Gibbo pricing/availability details if you will Goodman :D

eh, so whats the point of these cards then because they pratically perform the same as the GT which is practically the same as the GTX which..........., I'm confused, so now we have 8800GT, 8800GTX and now 8800GTS(g92) and they all pretty much perform within a 10% margin of each other , there really isn't a big enough performance gap between these cards tbh.

I thought there might be more of a difference than there is. Seems like a mildly overclocked gt would be on par (or at least pretty close) with a gts. Needless to say I'll be sticking with my gt until mid-next year when I rebuild my computer from scratch :)
