havnt seen any other threads about this, so i apologise if there is already.

Currently in development by THQ a 3rd person shooter/hack and slash playing the role of a space marine in the 40k universe in the style of Gears of War (looks like it uses the same engine as GoW)

heres a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbjbbzOrCIg

what are your thoughts? will it be a success?

Depends will it be like Warhammer 40k: Fire Warrior. The only reason I liked it was because it was the Tau race and 40k. As a game it wasnt that good.

Is this a Gears of war mod? lol.

Only kidding, I'm a huge 40k fan and this looks awesome. I hope you get to control a Dread. Also, this won't be good unless theres hundreds of of units on screen at once.

Looks cool because of the 40k setting, but I hope they make it easier to die, because there's no way a single space marine could take on 2 chaos marines and win easily, never mind 6. :p

I've only seen the one video and I'm yet to be convinced.

Firstly, the AI doesn't seem to be very good. The enemies are all milling around waiting to be killed. No-one is using cover. And I agree that a 40K game needs to make you feel like you're part of a much larger battle. The aircraft swooping about goes part of the way towards that but I'd expect to be surrounded by fellow Space Marines and tanks.

The graphics look pretty good though.

Let's hope that it's better than Firewarror. :p

yeh these were my thoughts exactly, firewarrior was a big let down for me.

this game looks, but it doesnt have the gameplay to make it realistic. however, it is still in developement and these things can be changed for release.

anyway, i hope they do make these changes and make it an awesome game

also I reckon the finishing moves will get very old and annoying, very quickly.

Graphics look ace but I would have preferred a FPS squad based game, like COD but with Space Marines, lol.

me and a friend had exactly the same thoughts about this, were currently playing a game called insurgency( a mod that uses the HL2 engine) which is a FPS similar to CoD and we said that a fps like this but set in the 40k universe using space marines vs chaos or something along those lines, where you can pick your class, like tactical marine, devastator or scout etc.

Could they not think of a better title than 'space marine'? That sounds like the most generic label ever. Oh well, suits Warhammer 40k to be honest.

How can people complain about what theyhave seen in an Alpha? lol

Im looking forward to this, tho I would need it to feel like im part of the "war" and not on a sole crusade.

the bolter (the gun the marine is carrying) is CRAP when compared with the fluff, in fluff terms it's a semi-automatic hand held, self propelled, armour penetraiting grenade launcher, with case-less shells not a fricking uzi ¬_¬

i like the look of it, but it needs to be squad based (ala GoW (which it is obviously based on)) with far more enemies on the screen at once, in its current state i would not by it (yes, i know it's just an alpha but it's pretty rubbish).

They need to stop mucking around and make a 40k squad based game using the same kind of system that Hidden and Dangerous 2 used.

THAT would be awsome.

vincent1989 said "the bolter (the gun the marine is carrying) is CRAP when compared with the fluff, "
Doesn't the fluff have bolters firing real fast as an option?
But it's not a bolter as boltguns are two handed weapons. Could be a storm bolter those are one handed and fast firing like that, but it doesn't look like a normal storm bolter, sure acts like one. Perhaps it's the wrong graphic after all it is in alpha stage. Surly it should be a bolt pistol as you wouldn't normally use a bolter and chainsward.

Anyway as an Alpha that looked very good.

Richdog said Storm bolter = Terminator/vehicle (heavy, a standard marine could never carry one one-handed)
That's not right normal marines can use storm bolters its just rare as it's a rare bit of equipment. Even a wimpy sister of battle can use a stormbolter so why would it be to heavy for a marine?

Bolters are normally used 2 handed.

How can you still not have learnt how to use the quote system? I genuinely find that astonishing. :D

Anyway regarding storm bolters I was talking generally, show me an instance where it's been used by a marine. Standard issue is for terminators and vehicles, not marines... and i nany case they certainly wouldn't carry it one-handed as you stated.

Bolter + chainsword is a common combo for marines, using one-handed, though the weapon is listed as two-handed. :)
