A while back I posted about my sister being nabbed for drink driving with her child in the car. Her court case was yesterday and the magistrate sentenced her to 6 weeks in prison.

I don't personally think it was the right decision by the beak and I'm sure there were better and more constructive avenues they could've explored but the laws the law, nothing anyone can do about it now.

I just hope they don't shack her up with Rose West who's apparently in the same place. Mind you, Rose ended up with a TV, DVD player etc so it mightn't be that bad.

Hard to comment on this.

Harsh in some ways (for your sister personally), fair in others (as an example, in terms of what could have happened, etc).

What's gonna happen with the Child? Has it been taken from her? Or will she take responsibility for the kid again after she comes out? Who will look after the kid until then?

Her partner is looking after their child. Difficult to predict what will happen after she get's out but should they split up I'm sure he'd have no difficulty getting full custody.

I agree, it's only because it's so close to home that I find it a travesty, had it been another woman I'd have probably agreed with the magistrates decision.

Think yourself lucky that 6 weeks is all she got.

She could have killed herself, the kid or some other innocent 3rd party.

Frankly, I think she got off lightly.

EVERYONE knows the penalties for drink driving are severe.
I find it about as silly as people starting threads on 'I have been caught doing 120mph will I be ok'.

She got caught drink driving, hopefully the punishment will ensure she never does it again.
I assume the punishment involves prison as a child was in the car. The main concern is not her car, but the innocent family taken out when she veers (sp?) onto the other side of a main road or carriageway or something.

I do. Now all we need is social services to step in and sort the child out, and its a good result all round. What a poor excuse for a parent.

Without reading through the other thread, what grounds do you have to base this on?

I mean, if she is/was mentally ill to some extent, then I think it's slightly harsh. Then again I'm sure she'd have been treated differently if that was the case.

If she just had several drinks and then thought she'd go and take her child out to the shops in the car, then I can see where you're coming from.
