Drink driving update

No offence to you mate but it serves her right.
You don't get in a car after drinking. Especially not with a passenger let alone a child passenger.

Thats just moronic and she needs to learn how dangerous and stupid it is.

No offense taken, I've mentioned it already but I'll say it again, prison is for rehabilitating offenders, the only way she could have been rehabilitated would be to detox and then consider the consequences her actions might have had, she has the option for both of those in prison (which I didn't realise when I foolishly opened this thread).

Lock her up for 6 years. She should be banned for life from driving and never be allowed to be in care of a child. Jesus. Hate people who do this. Make me sick and wish they would......

Just people like this make me angry. She should get the same punishment as if she would have hit and killed someone, which could EASILY of happened.

Umm no. It didnt happen so the punishment fits the crime, not the potential crime.
Hell, she could have careered into a petrol station, hit a pump and made the thing explode, killing 4 other users in the station and 12 passengers, oh and the attendant behind the till.
BANG HER UP, SHE COULD HAVE KILLED LOADS!!!1

Before everyone burns her at the stake how far over the limit was she?

I don't subscribe to the belief that someone who blows 34mg/100ml is a saint and someone who blows 36mg/100ml is someone who deserves to be hung, drawn and quartered. Limits are ultimately subjective and there isn't necessarily concrete science behind it (i.e. I know people who I would consider incapable of driving safely after 1 pint, and I know people who are perfectly compus mentis after 3).

EDIT: 5 times the limit is pretty irresponsible though.

about 5x over the limit, a comment was made about it being the most the magistrate had had before her in a case.

Tis deserved, and 6 weeks isn't too harsh, she'll serve between 3-4 and it will no doubt change her life (she'll certainly hesitate before drink driving again!). Obviously it was a very silly thing to do, but ho hum, I wish her the best in recovery :), alcoholism is a tough ride.

I read and commented in the first thread but i'm a little shocked that she only got 6 weeks. I don't know the circumstances behind her actions (assuming some mitigation from the very light sentence) but i'd hope that in general someone would get significantly more for this with the option of attending counselling/AA with the possibility of reducing it down based on progress and good behaviour. I'd hope Social Services would get involved to determine her suitability to be responsible for a child in her care as she clearly has issues that need to be resolved and i'm guessing the family missed.

Frankly, I think she got off lightly.

No she didn't compared with some.

I know a bloke who was massively over the limit ( i can't remember how much but i'm sure he blew over 100 and got half a page in the local rag.) and was pulled. He got community service, big fine and a three year ban.

The reason he didn't go to prison: his brief.

He convinced the court that he was under stress becasue his business was struggling, hie girlfriend left him and he had been driven to alcohol by it. Everyone who knows him knows he became an alcoholic and stopped going to work and then his business started to struggle and his girlfriend left him.

It's disgusting that he didn't go down when other cases - like this one - do.

He has seen the light, for now, and is off the booze and back at work but time will tell. Alcoholics are a funny species and never fail to let you down :(
