Hope you don't mind me quoting you Tom84 :)

Due to a royal balls up I've only just got my CE today

Glad to hear the early opinions are all good though even if I am jealous that I'm only about to start it up for the first time now :(

Anyway pics for the grand opening (as I cant see that anyone else has posted anything re the CE)...

Just waiting for 3.0 to install then I'm going to have my first go :)

No offence, but why do you (and others on here) pay so much for the privilege of owning something like this? The amount they produce these in means they will never truly become collectable items.

Same with the MW2 collector pack - a rep of the the game producers was talking about the collectors edition (with the night vision etc) and during the conversation the interviewer asked twice about what numbers these 'limited editions' are being produced in. First time he ignored it, the second time (when pushed) smirked and didn't answer.

Such a rip.

Firstly, I've not bought either of the two mentioned here, but I do have a fair few.

If the package is right, and I know I'll really like the game, it's giving me something else to enjoy with it. I'm under no illusions that it is in anyway 'limited'. It's more that it's limited to those who want to pay a bit more for some stuff ;)

I was going to get the CE of batman as i thought the batarang would be metal and £20 xtra for a metal batarang seems ok, but its plastic so i cancelled my CE.

I paid a bit extra for my Fallout with the lunchbox and Bobblehead, but I think it was like £50 as opposed to £45, so I considered it worth it. I wouldn't pay more than £50 for a game regardless of what it came with (unless it was a special controller, like Guitar Hero, Donkey Conga, etc)

I don't think I hav ever bought one of these, as the OP says, they are not limited, in anyway. The only thing I was considering, a while back, was the Tournament Edition of the SFIV stick. Was supposed to be limited to 3000 units IIRC, they made more and sold them cheaper after a month or 2.

I have bought the odd game with a tin case, but they have always cost the same as the normal version or less for some reason.

I doubt many people are under the illusion they are buying something "limited" and I see the term CE (collectors edition) a lot more often.

Loads of people collect weird stuff though, computer games figurines and plastic gadgety extra gizmos are quite tame :)

For me, it's not about the limited quantities, or the collectible factor. I buy Limited/Collector/Special Editions for games which I am really really looking forward to.

I like reading about the concept art, some of the design decisions, and the development process which you often find with the included books and DVD's.

I like getting extra stuff ingame such as new weapons or extra levels, for some reason I don't feel the game is complete without it.

Also, I like having a piece of the game world in real-life, whether it be Gears of War 2's Lancer, Fallout 3's bobblehead, GTA IV's safe deposit box, or Altair and Ezio figurines from Assassin's Creed. Not to mention they look bloomin awesome on display. :D

This :)

Seriously though asking that question is like asking anyone why they buy anything that you wouldn't, it's all about personal preference.

I've bought loads of the CE/LE versions of various different games and all bar BioShock and it's ultra cool metal Big Daddy they've all be fairly disappointing (Batman included tbh) but that wont stop me shelling out the extra for that initial unboxing and the possibility that the extra stuff might end up being as good as that what was included with BioShock

I've currently got the Assassins Creed 2 Black Edition pre ordered (£69.99) and the Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition pre ordered (£119.99) and I'll no doubt be left underwhelmed by both but it's my money which I work bloody hard for so I'm entitled to spend it on what I want :)

I've been guilty of buying so called 'Limited Editions', where I like the game or what's on offer; Fallout 3 tin, Bioshock Big Daddy, Halo 3 Legendary Edition, MW2 Goggles on pre-order and PC WoW Wrath box. However I've also left others like the above, or GTAIV on the shelf.

On one side there are far too many of these limited editions - my Forza, Gears and Mass Effect tins all fit this lazy category. However I do like the choice it can give you.

This. It annoys me when developers realise late in development that they can squeeze a few extra bucks from their fans by putting out a SteelBook version, with nothing extra except for a second disc with trailers and feature videos you can freely download from their website.

For the love of God, take some time and plan out a proper Collectors Edition.

I've bought a few, halo 3 legendary being the most notable (and the most awesome) mainly because I'm a big fan of the game/series and I like the extras that come with it.

Bought Halo 3 Legendary (not Limited) Edition. I was interested in the documentary that came with it and got caught up in the hype. I'm never peeing money away like that again, I'll let the people with more money than sense make that mistake more than once :p

To entice me the LE versions would need to come with something worth paying extra for, such as guaranteed free future map packs for MW2.

I liked the Halo 2 limited edition, the included making of was a very fun watch I thought.

BioShock Big Daddy figurine edition was a massive waste.

Over a year ago now I ran into a internet double wammy that meant I could get 2,100 MSP and the Limited Edition of Assasins Creed for under £33 (game was £20 on the receipt).

At the time it was pretty much the cheapest way to get the game, and I just really fancied playing it and wasn't bothered about what it came with. Turned up with cruddy 'big' plastic figure of Altaïr, which the Mrs wasn't impresed with - was met with an immediate 'what's that?'. But it was a good deal and and it got me cheap MSPs, so I couldn't complain.

Worst bit? The game is still in shrinkwrap, as I still haven't got around to playing it. Don't tell the Mrs!

I don't really get the point in them to be honest, but then, i'm sure there's millions of people that wouldn't understand why i like to keep games instead of trading them in. Horses for courses.

only one i have ever bought was GTA 4. Wanted the cd and the bag , which i use a lot!. I never have bought any other special editions. Just felt like getting this one and was extremely excited about the game so ...

but i probably wont be doing it again. Unless i want to go perving at night ;)

Never bought a Limited Edition yet, little trinkets and Video discs arn't of particular value to me really. This is barring the supreme commander faction editions at release which were cheaper than the actual game.

Only one i think i'll buy is the Forza3 LE as it has some extra cars which are of particular interest to me, such as the 997GT3RS. Plus i need a keyring.
