Hi guys.

Ok I'm about to buy a new case tomorrow (Coolermaster CM-690 II Advanced) and I was wondering if an ATI 5870 will fit in it ? Does anyone know ?

The answer is yes - it will. HD 5870 is a standard full length card, and CM-690 supports standard full length add-in cards.

Yes! Another one for the CM-690 Army!

I know it might not help, but I have had both HD4870 and my GTX470 in my case and both have left at least 2inches between the end of the card and the HDD racks.

Bit of advice with the case, you can actually get 2 140mm fans above the metal casing on top. Just position them in the plastic area and secure them down, then lower onto the metal top and its done. This allowed me to have my huge Megahalems Heatsink and 2 120mm fans in the case. Oh also, unless you are using them or just like the look of them, remove the other 4 HDD bays from the case, it takes seconds to remove them. I found that unless they had HDDs in them (at least one in them) they rattled slightly.

It's one of the main reasons I'm upgrading my case to be honest. HDD vibrating noise. It drives me mad !! I really hope this case alleviates the problem. I'll be leaving the HDD bay in mate as I have 5 internal HDD's at present with a 6th coming soon. Soon as I'm happy with the wiring, I'll upload some pics for you to have a look at

Yea if you have all 6 bays in you wont here anything but the actual HDDs working. In fairness, I dont believe I have any vibration from my case at all. All my fans are secured by rubber bungs, my cables are neat and tied down/back, I took the 4 bays out and removed the metal holders as I only use 2 HDDs in my PC, so yea, its quite nice and tidy. Once I get my cool mod going, I will upload pics.

The CM 690 II does NOT fit a 5970 in, I know from trying to fit one personally.

5870 will be fine though.

@Mythril1976: We don't stock the windowed edition, you used to be able to buy just a windowed 690 II sidepanel directly from coolermaster. My advice would be if you wanted a window so bad, get one laser cut, from chilledpc or somewhere similiar, shouldn't cost too much.

Just remembered, a 5970 or any other card that may come out that's the same size or longer, will fit in the 690 II. Only if you remove the bottom 4 hard drive bays, as they just screw out. But that leaves you with just 2 3.5" drive bays.

You can, but you have to remove the lower HD cage.

Don't like my CM 690 II. Quite interested in the HAF-X though at the today only price of £129.24.

Problem I found with the 690 II is the lack of space. Not that it wont fit decent sized graphics card, but if just feel cramped.
It also seems over complicated, in places poorly designed and an on/off switch for a fan LED, really?

Still, if you've made up your mind, good luck with it, hope it works out better for you than it did for me.

Well I went and bought my new case today and I've spent all afternoon putting my system into it. I even bought 2 purple cold cathode tubes but I've not installed these yet due to them being UV and not purple as stated.

Here are a few pictures. Sorry for the image quality. They were done with my iPhone 4 and the light levels under the desk are crap.

Thanks mate. One thing I'd like to know is how I can go about turning the fan speed down on the front of the case. I've looked in my BIOS and can't really see anything in there so is there a program that can do this ?

depending on the motherboard and where you have plugged it in, but there should be an option in BIOS to change the fan speed profiles.

Otherwise download something like speedfan

Yeah it is so I'm thinking either getting another fan that's not as loud or getting a manual fan speed gadget that fits into the front of the case.

I will also be purchasing this case soon, the nVidia edition that is. Looks like I will defo be getting this after all.
