Been playing around with a lovely intel Extreme CPU today.

Had to mash out the specs for the sake of NDA but it certainly looks rather special :D

Waste of time releasing anything better (more expensive) than i7 980x, what Intel need is a mainstream 6 core.

Intel always have a $999 CPU, if this is a new Extreme CPU ;) it shall just replace the current 980X at same price.

However this new CPU is not due until Q1 next year, but it seems like one very fast CPU. :D

Nice CPU for the low (ish) voltage... Doesn't matter what combination of multi and base clock you use it caps out at about 5.45ghz with volts sat at 1.5v vcore. Restricted to 1.5v due to cooling. With a little TLC and a stronger board (p6T deluxe v2 not exactly suited to this) with better power delivery this should turn out to be an all in all good chip.

Id love to get some more extreme cooling on there with a board that has 2x 8pin EPS to ensure power delivery is nice and stable. Test board has been around in some form or other since the release of the original i7s in winter 2008. There are better units available now so I shall see if I can get a better result using something a little more substantial.
