So what are you giving up for lent. 2009 I gave up alcohol, that was pretty hard, but its all about temptation.

Might do crisps and chocolate. :D

Lent runs from the 9th of March (tomorrow) till the 23rd of April, 46 days.

In Western Christianity Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Saturday. The six Sundays in Lent are not counted among the forty days of lent because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter", a celebration of Jesus' victory over sin and death.

Lent in our family is always just the 40 day slog, no sundays off. Makes whatever we gave up soooooooooooooooooooooo much better.

Not to be a bigot or anything, but is this purely a Catholic thing? I'm prodestant myself and I dont know anybody who does this.

It's a Christian thing, merely a recognition of the temptation we all go through in life and the celebration of Christ's eternal triumph.

I'm giving up giving up. This Lent is excess all the way for me!

Actually, it's not. I've been seriously needing to get the diet and exercise etc. in gear as I need to shift 6 stone, hopefully by the end of the year.

Perhaps giving up alcohol would be a prime opportunity right now, as I do drink a lot.

Cigarettes. Don't smoke a particularly large amount, and that 46 days would take me up to the day of my stag do. Probably end up smoking again then :D
