Have things got out of hand?

I read the article and I agree with him, it's crazy that in this politically correct world a person can walk through an airport with there face covered, whats to say she wasn't carrying a bomb under it?

If security measures are to be enforced, everyone should be treated the same.

I'm flying to America in April and although I might not have voiced my opinion, I would have thought exactly the same thing as he did.

I'll also feel very insecure if I'm flying with anybody who has a burka or turban on, not because they're muslim or any other religion but because they could be hiding knives or explosives on them

you can't say anything without it appearing perhaps slightly maybe racist. combine that with the jobsworths who make those rules up and the jobsworths who follow them and yeah....you get situations like that.

He asked a perfectly valid question and pointed out a perfectly valid flaw in their system, imo.

Department for Transport rules do not prevent people covering their faces at UK airports for religious reasons.

Just to be absolutely clear, there is no religion that requires women to cover their face. Just the head/hair.

Anyway, “If I was wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen.”

IMHO that's just a ridiculous and pointless thing to say. This wasn't passport control, if she got through the metal detector without setting it off then that's perfectly fine.

She didn't pass through the metal detector though did she, well it doesn't say she did, wasn't that the reason that he was annoyed? because she walked straight through, without being checked at all
What? Have you ever been to an airport? You cant just skip the metal detectors. I'm assuming these are the ones between check-in and the departure lounge.

The fact is, this wasn't passport control, she got through with her face covered without setting off the detector, Mr Jones clearly had something against her which prompted his cocky comment and resulting security attention. I'm 100% certain that if she did set of the detector she would be scrutinized just like anyone else who sets off the detector.

He never really had a point did he - he was going through metal detectors, not passport control. With that in mind, it does seem a bit of a silly thing to say, but they shouldn't have kept him like that.

Agreed. Stupid comment. Yes the security person seems to have over reacted or not realised that it was a tongue in cheek comment but they May have genuinely been offended by his comments. Either way we don't really know as we only have his side if the event. IMO he should have a but more common sense.

I think the article is a bit misleading. It appears that the security guard who was offended wasn't actually the one who the comment was said to.
