Hi Guys

Me and NathWraith recently went on a bit of a trip to Wales for the day. Plan was to take in some great driving roads and eventually end up at the beach.

Our route was from Shell services on the A34/A500 in Stoke on Trent/Newcastle over to Black Rock Sands via Porthmadog
First on the agenda was the Evo Triangle which was on the way to Porthmadog using the sat nav. The roads through Nantwitch were busy as we set off just before rush hour, once on the A5 things got a lot easier and the long sweeping bends were a joy to drive on.

Triangle Map
After stopping off and having a chat with a biker, we made our way round the triangle. Its fairly obvious why EVO magazine use this place for testing cars out. Tight corners and narrow sections of road on the first stretch that we visited [A543] which meant that pace was steady and there was a bit of a climb for the cars to take up.

The second section [B4501] was a lot better, the initial part of the road had long sweeping bends through a fantastic pine forest. We stopped off at Llyn Brenig for a short break and then pressed on towards the tail end of the B4501 which was very technical and had a few surprising sharp bends.

After retracing our steps on the bottom end of the triangle, the A5 we carried on and made it to Porthmadog for some lunch.
After a brief walk around Porthmadog, we headed to the beach to take some pictures and headed back

Surprise of the journey was the A4212. This is hands down the best road I have ever driven on. almost to the point where we nearly turned around and did it again.
if you get a chance, go out of your way to drive it. you will not be disappointed.

only let down of the day was the walkie talkies breaking, so communication between the cars was difficult and it meant stopping more often.

Here are some pictures.

Did I miss the thread where you bought the 350 Nath, a mates about to buy once once his Fiesta ST is gone.

Should have gone FWD we don't want another Supra incident :p

There's some awesome roads in Wales, the A5 towards Bangor/Anglesey is sublime!

Neil.

I could not agree more. Hopefully next time I drive down it, it isn't wet unlike last time when it was chucking it down on both the journey there and the return!

Great roads, I drive out to Beddgelert regularly as the gf's mum has a B+B there. Perfect roads for an S2000

Not done the full EVO triangle yet though.

You need to try harder on the sand though

Done, although I'm sure valkia will want to improve it :p

Didn't make a thread and lol what can I say, I ran out of talent! :D

I'll be making the dive to RWD fun by the beginning of next year hopefully so no doubt ill follow your footsteps shortly after, just to decide on 200sx or v8 soarer.

i done this in Jan.... foggy/raining all 3 days but still fun. Also parked up and watched the sunset on that very beach... Not as much fun in a FWD car though...

Dunno what the FWD hating is about. Fact of the matter is you can drive a FWD ridiculously hard without any sense that it is about to kill you, ideal for the triangle and such like.

Welsh roads are made of win though, done pretty much all of them worth driving in North/Mid Wales, need to check out what's available in the South.

We had a brilliant day for it, wouldn't have bothered in January but your picture looks like the weather was ok for you :)

The civic was the lead car for the trip and was incredible even when being pushed.
Couldn't have been happier with the cars performance throughout the trip.

The Z was easily quicker on the straights but there was little in it for the twisty bits [so practically all of the journey]

I wasn't hating, I love thr fact I can push my golf right to the limit and even past and it still doesn't feel like its going to kill MD at any oppurtunity.

because i couldnt do donuts on the beach ;)

Id much rather a FWD car over a rear any day for normal driving and track days.

That picture was from the drive up there, that day was ok, the following day was terrible, including 10meter visibility in places etc. I had to get away to de-stress so i took the gamble and lost with the weather. I still managed to have fun though. Not edited the 3rd day photos yet, i drove all the way from Porthmadog, to Cardiff, then home to london in one day, now THAT was a long drive (like 13hours in the car), and very much fun around the Elan Valley etc, hell even the A470 is "fun" compared to roads around here.

Haha brings back so many memories...

I spent many an evening watching the races up and down the beach at black rock
although its now closed after dusk.
Once saw a mK1 Astra GTE run into the ramp that came down from the road onto the beach..took all four of its wheels off .. no one was hurt apart from the drivers pride :D
