Basically I have a car which was stolen a week or so back, it was found smashed in alittle (but not burnt out). Now the police I contacted and they quickly recovered the car as thier were other complaints over dangerious driving - the car was towed to a garage, I gave the police my details and everything. I got a letter days later that the car was impounded however they want £150 then £20/day and maybe even more for a "specialist fee".

I am told to contact my insurance however I disscussed this with a few people and I am very unsure what to do. I never signed paper work or anything for some 3rd party garage to keep my car and bill me for it. I am told by someone that they had the same problem and contacted the police and the police said the gov pay for it and had it released free.

The car when i bought was worth on the insurance £1260, it's current value is probably £300 - if I can get the car back then sell for breaking. I don't and was told by people getting insurance involved is a bad idea as I'll get charged in the end a lot more next time.

Another option is to "leave" it as the insurance involvement and car value isn't worth it. However they said if I don't pay they dispose of at full cost to me, I know someone who drove UNINSURANCED for 6month and had thier car taken off them they just left the garage and it was distroyed and they never paid.

My insurance was £3400/year for £1260 pug 106 (I know it's a stupid price but that's that) - it's due up soon and they said to renew is only £2500 so it's a lot of money I am gonig to save. Could my insurance pay out the recovering of the car and I would sell for breaking rather than write off?

Anyone else had such a stupid situation?? CONFUSED.COM

No, I am serious - that's my renewal which is far better than £3400. Should I call the police and explain about the impound and why I am paying as the police took it and never mentioned ANYTHING about money. Someone said they do release it free if it's the police who impound it. I am told to contact my insurance but then I will be paying more next time.

Nothing ever works out, my neighbor last week had thier wheels stolen. They got it sorted now though but I ffriggin hate these kids

Ok please any advice on what to do with the car?.

The car was £1260. I tried many insurance compare sites and Admiral where the cheapest @ £3400 - it's to do with my area, age, unemployed (but I do some charity work). It was pretty much that price so I paid it. Someone I spoke to his duagter has a simiilar car and paid £4k to insure.

Renewal is £2500 so that's a lot better.

Yes I am that guy, now I am trying to get rid of it - I will eilther replace or wait till winter for a car (as I can bike everywhere)

This car has been stolen twice. The first time is ok now as I got £800 from them to replace/repair.

I would rather wear dog turd sandles and walk than pay £2500 for insurance.
