Car stolen and impounded, write off - pretty much

Personally, I would pay up and get your car back, then strip it for parts. That way, you should break even and your insurance isn't involved. It's a bad situation really.

Hmm i wouldn't get your insurance involved at all! But... i was under the impression that if the POLICE had sent it to the impound then its free to reclaim your vehicle, some garages get paid it by the government then try and bill the owner of the vehicle too.

What other people said.

pay(unless you shouldn't so call police and see what they say)-sell-forget get a proper car when you can actually afford one.. but 3.4 k? i know these are the prices but have you actually looked around? or just used comparison websites? i hope you didn't just buy the 106 and looked for cheapest quote :)

No dude, I went on loads of different sites and it would always be that price. I might try another requote and see but +1yr NCB

Are they legally allowed to scrap it?

Well they took it and want money, but I think they will yeah. I've not signed anything either.

I know I go on abit but seriously I need to get this sorted, if I paid £400 or whatever to get the car back, then I'd sell it for breaking but I doubt I'd break even. I

dunno if its been said but if the police took it they will give you it back for free.. pick the car up at the impound garage and ask for it back, tell the guy the police have said you can have it back free of charge..

this is what we did when ours was stolen

guessing you didnt report it stolen and the police assume you where off your head on glue and crashed it then ran off ?

why would they charge you to get your stolen car back ?

I want to know how you can afford 3.5k whilst on the dole. How can you possibly pay that? You would have literally nothing left for petrol or anything else.

Have the police or the people stealing a 106 TWICE caught on to your "other"business?

Your right I will go there and ask for it back. It's not the police, it's the garage who have it, they sent a letter saying it's £150 release and then £20/day and maybe a specialist charge. As for how I paid, it was from my savings account I have since I was a child. At 17/18 I started learning to drive then passed but insurance I couldn't afford, 3 years later I get a car. Nothing I can do about the prices, it's the way it is sadly. However it is dropping

and yes I reported it stolen.
