After discussion the SPL thread has been allowed to come back but please read the rules below and follow them to ensure that it can stay.

1) Treat other posters with respect. Do not belittle their club or use unflattering nicknames for either the poster, their club or anyone associated with the club including players - if you're in any doubt then don't use the phrase or email a moderator prior to use.

2.a) The SPL thread is only for discussion of SPL footballing matters - you may feel strongly about something your club has done in the past or something another club has done but this is not the thread to discuss it in.

2.b) This also means no discussion of Rangers liquidation, there is a separate thread for that and any discussion should remain in there.

3) Don't bait other fans in an attempt to get them to respond insensibly, that's covered by the general prohibition against trolling - if you do this then you can expect repercussions.

4) These rules are simply an extension to the standard Football Stadium rules here, they still apply so do yourself a favour and make sure you're acquainted with both sets before posting.

5) Try to enjoy yourself and let others do the same. It's unfortunate that the rules need to be spelled out in such a fashion but we don't want to see anyone banned because of a lack of clarity.

THERE WILL BE NO DISCUSSION OR EVEN MENTION OF SECTARIAN ISSUES OR THE BEHAVIOUR OF OTHER FANS WHATSOVER.

Celtic and Rangers will be referred to as Celtic and Rangers and nothing else, what some consider acceptable others do not.

Punishments will go in stages

1 - Infraction
2 - 7 Day suspension
3 - 14 day suspension
4 - 28 day suspension and removal of Sports Arena access rights

Members who already have history may start at the 7 day suspension level.

With that all said hopefully we can enjoy a good season.

Results from the weekend are:

Dundee Utd 3-0 Hibernian
Celtic 1-0 Aberdeen
Hearts 2-0 St Johnstone
Kilmarnock 0-0 Dundee
Ross County 0-0 Motherwell
St Mirren 2-2 Inverness CT

A good start as far as I'm concerned in terms of results but not a great performance from Hearts.

Was up at Celtic Park on Saturday, it was pretty turgid stuff and a draw would have been fair. The atmosphere wasn't how I remember it, (it was the first game I've been to in a few years) it seems everyone leaves the singing to the Green Brigade section.

Going on the evidence I think Aberdeen will do better this year, they contained Celtic quite easily and I imagine will be in and around the top 4 with Hearts and Dundee Utd.

Celtic will need to quickly improve if they're going to beat Helsinki.

Do you think the atmosphere was down to people thinking Celtic will walk the title this year, post-holiday blues after the carry on over the summer, or just due to not winning by lots of goals? I'm one of those that think Celtic will win by at least 10 points and the odds for the title are fair. Would probably only be complacency that would cost Celtic the title. Helsinki will be a tough away game on the evidence of the last couple of games.

Also, looks like Hibs are early relegation candidates already so I doubt their manager will last beyond Christmas with fans turning against him already even after one game.

With the prize money for 2nd place a lot more than 3rd a nice incentive for the other teams to go for anyway. :)

The Celtic - Aberdeen game was quite poor tbh. Freak goal i'll take, but I liked the look of Aberdeen. I think they are going to have a better season than usual.

For Celtic, they will get better and fingers crossed it starts this midweek.

Not seen any other highlights but good results for Dundee Utd and Hearts.

Have to agree - Aberdeen looked well prepared and disciplined. if anyone can get a season out of them, it is Craig Brown

What is the prize money this year?

1st... 17%
2nd... 15%
3rd... 9.5%
4th... 8.5%
5th... 8%
6th... 7.5%
7th... 7%
8th... 6.5%
9th... 6%
10th... 5.5%
11th... 5%
12th... 4.5%

Every team guaranteed a minimum of 4% and I assume it's taken from the total SPL revenue after expenses and SFL payment. Whether or not the extra £1m for Rangers' TV rights is applied this year or not I don't know. Couple of places saying around £3m split between 1st and 2nd place.

Rangers aren't in the SPL so surely the reference to Rangers is a non issue in this thread?

I can start an *****Official diddy SFL League season***** for diddy teams like my own if need be :)

They should be a non-issue but it's better to be explicit about it since a number of times things that should be non-issues have reared their ugly heads and there's been a whole lot of mess to clean up.

If you'd like to start a thread for any of the other SFLs or indeed one for all of them you are more than welcome to. :)

It's tough to say. I was expecting a bit of a party, what with the flag being raised, but the crowd were quiet. A bad pass typically prompted a more vocal response than a good one. Certainly the football was pretty dull to watch but I think supporters have an obligation to support the team, to sing, wave flags, offer encouragement not just derision.

Playing at home in front of a big crowd is supposed to hold an advantage but when the crowd is expectant and critical, it's not the home team that's advantaged.

First of all thanks to SemiPro and other dons for for getting this thread back up and running !

Was at Tannadice yesterday and whilst we were good Hibs were very poor and are my favourites along with Killie for the drop.

Good to see Utd at the top of the league (for the next 5 days anyway :) )

Corner played short, shot at the near-post, should have been straight-forward for the keeper to collect but ran past him, absolute howler! I was delighted as Celtic weren't looking like getting a goal in the game.

Big night for the SPL in Europe, there's a lot hinging on Celtic being able to get through to at least the play-offs.

As hilarious as this summer has been, the death of Rangers has pretty much sealed our league's fate as a European minnow.

The UEFA co-efficient system is geared towards keeping the big teams, big leagues and big audiences at the top table and Scotland could just about hang in there with two teams capable, at least occasionally, of a decent European run.

If Celtic don't get a result tonight I fear it's going to be many years before you see a Scottish club in the Champions League.

HJK Helsinki v Celtic KO 1800
