Any religious people watch the Wonders of Life last night?

Just interested what you think about the scientists theory that all life came from the same place and how it doesn't really make us special; just a stage in evolution.

As you go from species to species, apparantly our DNA code is 60% that of a chicken, up to 99% of a chimp.

BTW I'm athiest but I am jealous of religious folk and their beliefs of happy endings. I'm not being patronising, I genuinely am.

I don't believe in evolution. It's as simple as that.

As for same DNA, well all living things were created by the same creator, so it's no wonder there are similarities in all living things.

Oh I can't wait for the discovery of extra-terrestrial life that has evolved to have either DNA with 0% commonality with us or no DNA, as we know it, at all.

Lets not jump down Jason2s throat, the OP wants a discussion, lets not kill it by being so dismissive...

ps3ud0

Even when it's put right in front of your face in such a fashion that you literally can't argue with it without looking like a crazy person?

My girlfriend and I are Christian, I believe in evolution but she does not. I just think God kick started evolution which to me is more incredible then just a click of the fingers and here we all are... It's often the subject of debate/argument between us, annoyingly she has a masters in Biology and a PhD in Biochemistry which leaves me ill equipped to argue in evolutions favor!

My point is that if someone can have such an excellent grasp of Biology and scientific research as my girlfriend does and still not believe in evolution then maybe it's not so black and white.

That must be a nightmare. How with a PhD in Biochemistry does she not believe in evolution?

If this was the case why is there no mention of it in the religious text of any faith. Also why did religious leaders spend so much time resisting any notion of evolution, even to this day.

People sometime only see what they want. Parents of murderering rapists can insist that their children are good really.

So man just appeared just like that is that what you are saying, do you believe the earth is only 6000 years old as well.

Correct :)

I don't 'believe' in evolution either, but then I don't 'believe' in gravity either. I simply exist both exist.

Complete nightmare! Especially with all the arguments about things that haven't even happened! "But what will we teach the children....."

She just doesn't believe it. I think it's partly due to the lab she worked in during her PhD, her supervisor would always have the result he wanted first and made sure he found results that backed him up. Also from what she tells me the results are not as conclusive for evolution as the general public believe them to be.

I very much believe in evolution, but like I said it's hard to argue with someone who has far greater knowledge on the subject. It leaves me feeling a bit odd, because normally if you were speaking to someone who held an advanced degree in an area that you just had general knowledge of and they corrected you on something you'd probably should believe them over yourself!
