So I've experienced my first accident and thought I'd post up some pics of my car. Happened on thursday morning around 2:10 - 2:15 while I was on my way back from my mates. Car is wrecked but I walked away without a single scratch on me, just been very very sore all over with bad neck and back and bruising all over.

Incredibly lucky as the roads were empty or this could have been a lot worse.
Wasn't speeding, driving sensibly, just driving home when the front end lost traction on Mancunian way dual carriage way.

Can post up details if people want to know. Gutted aswell as I only just got this car 2 weeks ago.

Its only a car least your ok. Im many years of driving I have never lost traction from the front wheels unless I was hooning or black ice. Any idea what caused it diesel spill etc.

I honestly don't know how the car lost traction, as I was driving under speed limit and after it happened, I was in shock anyway so didn't ask a lot of questions. The police did say that since the road has been resurfaced, it is incredibly slippery when it rains and has caused accidents before.

I do trade aswell so have driven vast amount of cars, even RWD. How ironic that it happens in a CTR.

Blimey, that's knackered. Would be interested to know exactly what happens as it looks like you span out in style.

Car lost traction while following the curve in the road to the left and went straight in the centre barrier, the driver side front hit the barrier first where the car dragged along for a few meters and then span out when the rear passenger side hit the centre barrier, I believe a lot more happened in the next few moments but I dont remember as I hit my head quite hard against the steering, when I next opened my eyes is when the car hit the metal wall on the left and the centre console/stereo came out flying straight into my face.

According to the police officer/report, the car travelled quite a lot of distance during this incident as the roads were very wet and slippery. What really gets to me is that this happened at 50mph, I wonder what would it have been like if I was speeding or hooning it.

Honestly, it was scary, I've been driving for over 5 years now never had an accident before and never expected this to happen. The airbags did not deploy. Obviously the damage can be seen in the pics but the rear passenger side the suspension is all bent, engine subframe is bent and the driver side wishbone is snapped, front slam panel/crash bar bent, radiator all out of shape, etc

The curve where it all went wrong:

This is where the car stopped:

Should give an idea on distance the car travelled.

Hmm not the first time I've heard that story with those type Rs someone I know from eve online had a very similiar incident - going around a bend and front went out for no apparent reason (his ended up rolling).

Bit worrying that the airbags didn't deploy for a ~50MPH impact... Could have been an awful lot worse though. You certainly kept on traveling after the impact! :/

I always wonder what you'd do sat in that car as it came to a halt and the airbags still haven't popped? did you dash for your life as the idea of another punch in the face from the bags settles in your mind?

Nasty! Main thing is you are ok though!
At what speed to airbags normally deploy? I would have expected them to pop with that damage!

Ooo harsh.

Out of interest, what tyres are you running? There must have been something different about your car/driving otherwise there would have been hundreds of people in the barrier if complete loss of control was happening at 50mph - and that's 50mph in a CTR who I would argue would have far superior cornering ability than most cars.

Indeed, what tyres are on the car?

Could have just been a very slippery surface if it had just been resurfaced. But as you've said, it's a CTR, not some random mundane car with poor tyres on it (or is it:p).

i'm guessing if you were not hooning that vtec kicked in then inducing some massive torque steer

I don't understand how following a gentle curve at 50mph can result in such horrendous understeer, rain or no rain, unless something's wrong or the tyres are really crap.

Re the airbags, AFAIK it has to be a fair old impact at the right angle for them to deploy

proof that crumple zones are awesome

stubby city cars like the smart aren't smart because they don't have crumple zones

stereotypical boy-racer car has an accident... can't help but think this was statistically quite likely to happen at some point

Iffy geo, bugger all steering feel, crap or worn tyres, lifting off when it started letting go etc, all exaggerated by the wet weather and gammy surface. Probably.
